Wiring for Aim Solo 2DL
I am hoping you guys can help me out, I am having trouble with the wiring for my Aim Solo 2 DL. I ordered the Solo 2 DL with the CAN option to be wired into the ECU. I wanted to leave the OBD port open so I could also datalog my track sessions with MHD.
I have set up the Solo 2 DL with the BMW_PT6 for the ECU. I've read through the install guide from AIM, https://www.bimmerworld.com/core/med...t=.pdf&whence= but I cannot determine where the wires are located that are needed to tap into for the CAN high and CAN low. Can you access the wires under the dash? Or do you have to access the wires in the engine compartment at the DME? I am also a little confused by the CAN high and CAN low wires going into the OBD port. Can you use these wires to splice into? Any help is appreciated. |

fe1rx In your post linked above, you mention you previously had a Solo DL wired into your PT-CAN bus via the junction box. The AIM documentation for connecting the AiM harness to the CAN wires says that the CAN+/- wires are either red/blue and red, or alternatively black and yellow, and they are twisted together. Was this your experience at the junction box? I am trying to find the proper wires to tap into for my Aim Solo 2 DL into an N55. Any help is appreciated!

The CAN bus on the OBD port is not PT-CAN, and can not be used for the CAN AIM SOLO... I believe they sell an OBD version specifically for that.
PT-CAN will be red and green wires twisted together. If your car is an automatic the easiest place to tap into them is probably at the shifter, otherwise the Junction Box connectors behind the glove box are probably your best bet. As an Electrical Engineer with a lot of CAN experience, and having disassembled and reassembled the wire harness in my car, tapping the PT-CAN freaks me out. There are standards on how CAN busses are physically laid out and BMW is already pushing the limits, so just hanging some more wire off the bus is kinda sketchy. As already stated, Fe1rx did this, and I'm sure did an excellent job, and his car appears to be working well so I would copy and paste what he did. |

Thanks amg6975, I appreciate the guidance. I can wire up a fan or a switch, but when it comes to figuring out which wires carry what data, I get a bit lost. I'm going to take a look at the junction box and see if I can identify the correct wires.
