Look under issue #14. ...

Get this done while the recall campaign is running. My local dealer states that BMW dealers will honour these kinds of replacements for life, but my experience with Volvo was that the dealer that sold me the car did not check on outstanding rework and I ended up having to pay myself because the rework campaign ended already years ago and the replacement parts had become very difficult to source.

As I recall, except SA, non of the EU or other region cars have had this replacement.
Looked into REALOEM and unfortunately this cable is not a standard part but can only be replaced as part of the full bespoke wiring harness. I have a replaced connector and even then, it would take an hour or more to get to this cable. For the sake of component comparison, I doubt that locals here or anywhere would line up ...

I found a similar recall in Australia http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/in...itemId/1045818

But they are only recalling cars between 3/1/07 and 2/28/11... that would seem to preclude the 1M. I guess I should give them a call anyway, but I bet the answer is "no".
In one of the US documents it states that the Vehicle Option S823A 'Hot climate version' is related ... the AUS link you posted is very similar in description, and thus it would be surprising if the AUS 1M was not involved.

Urgh... After seeing what is involved in fixing it, I'm not sure I want the dealer doing it... Don't trust those monkeys.

Sorry to bring up this thread but I'm on the fence about getting this done. Does everyone advise on doing this even though some people have had issues?

I had mine done when the car went it for a broken charge pipe. As you can see from my previous posts, I was hesitant to get it done as well. However, I'm glad to report I have no issues since the recall. No squeaks or rattles either.

Car is back, glove box rattling at high gears and low rpm, no good.

Arrived home and realized its a metal clamp that came off and was rattling.

Back to dealer, fixed

Cant they do it right the first time !?

Still haven't taken mine in yet. Do I still need the original letter or should the dealer have a record of the recall? Is there a time limit for this recall?

There is no time limit, as it is a safety issue. Had mine done last month after buying the car - hardly a big deal, and if it prevents a potential fire...

Based in UK. Mine was done today too apparently. Hoping this fixes the battery excessive drain messages I've been tolerating for the past year. This was done at the same time as Syntner Nottingham were replacing failed water pump. Water pump failure was a fun experience on the A46 on Saturday but was fixed quickly and handled well by BMW extended warranty. car is being transported back to me in Reading tomorrow.
