BMW website claims it to be used for road bicycles in short it's a rack for light weight bikes with front fork mounting and rear strap mounting
I have personally used it for my single speed 700c urban bike as well as my road bike.

I'm curious, can one fit a road bike inside with the seats folded and front wheel removed? I can do it in an e46 coupé.

You sure could but then you don't have 4 passenger seating.
The beauty of this roof rack with bike holders is to carry 4 passengers have a trunk with full capacity and haul the bikes on your roof

so possibly a no-go if I'm looking at hauling a pair of 29er Mountain bikes?

would you sell a single bike tray?

I have a road bike, and am looking at picking up a pair of mountain bikes for the wife and I (she doesn't want a roadie). I already have the cross bars.

Have been watching this sit for some time, figure i'll bite. Shoot me a price for the racks and a single bike tray if Duff Man just wants one. I am really just interested in the racks but I do have a road bike and suppose it could come in handy.

Better take the entire setup from me.
I have no use of keep a single bike rack, it'll come handy to go for a bike ride with your buddy
