No, I think the current set-up is perfect for the car. Every car has a Mustang Gt exhaust now... I like the e46 tailpipes, thus I also like the e87's ...! What I don't get is people illusions of grandeur of trying to make the 135i ass-end look better. You can't! It's perfect fitment for the style of car. Having 4 pipes hangingoff the back-end of a 135i is laughable and totally rice. Same goes with this thread -Garrett |

If it could be done tastefully with true dual all the way back, I think it's a decent mod. I don't see it as "rice" at all (I don't particularly care for that term).
Adding freer breathing to a turbo car yield larger gains than with normally aspirated cars. I see this as both aesthetics and performance. I don;t think it looks that bad, but I don't think it's amazing either. My wife's 2.0l audi has dual exhaust (_o___o_), so it's nothing special for me. |

I really like the twin large diameter pipes on the car. Looks very clean.

The current exhaust set up will not stop me from getting a 135i, but I do think the 128i should have it and the 135i should have dual like on the 335i, and leave quad only for the M line. I have a 2000 Audi S4 which exhaust looks just like the 135i, but I also wish it was more like the 2004 S4 with dual. Just looks more balanced. Again, either way looks good, one is just better IMHO.

This is what BMW should have done with the tail. It would have kept the design line consistent with the 328i/335i. Looks tasteful, clean, and simple. I also agree that the quads should be reserved for the M line...
... just have to see if BMW will move forward with the M1 in the next few years. Seeing the duals makes so much more sense. Then again, and exhuast configuration won't be the deciding factor in purchasing/leasing this car. |

On the Z4 they managed to tame that quite a bit, (extra mid section resonator) & with the Supersprint cat back the sound on mine is purrrrrrfect now.

I guess you didn't read my post. The e46 was DESIGNED that way, the e90 was designed with twin! I like the way the dual exhaust looks on the clean, simple, back-end of the more elegent 335i. It just doesnt work for the 135i. It's a fruitless effort and ulimatly ends out "ricing" the looks of the car.... Offcoarse I've already said that once. again? -Garrett |

But the 1 series is not necessarilly a decendant of the 3 series. Are people forgetting the mojor design influence for the 1 series coupe' is the 1970's BMW 2002 ..? It's a retro car in almost every sense.... |

I hear what you're saying, BMW designed the 135i/128i rear for single-sided. What you're also saying is that anything different than that is considered "rice" because it is not what BMW originally designed to. I don't mean to bash you or start anything, but you just come off close minded to something outside the box. |

personally i like the way the pshop of the quad tips. But I too wonder why BMW didn't put duals ala 335i. It is just more symmetrical and completes the look of the rear end. Quads may be a little over the top, but duals I would consider going with as an exhaust mod, especially if it flows better than the single sided.
