Trunk lid alignment
I just noticed that the front side of my trunk lid sits below the rear fender line/B pillar by about a 1/4" on both sides. Can this be adjusted or is it normal on this model?

I assume it's normal, since my car is the same way.

I thought the same thing initially. That side of the lid sits higher than the rear though. It does however make the lid seat on the "seal" of the lower rear window. Maybe that helps channel the water into the drains. Seems odd that BMW would make those panels not match up without a purpose. |

There are two screws with plastic caps on them (one on either side) that sets the decklid height. You can manipulate the screw (they're under the hinges towards the rear) to adjust the decklid height but realize you may need to adjust the striker for the latch mechanism too.

Mine is the same. Except it does not bother me at all.
To me it makes the trunk lid follow the "flow" of the rear window and it looks sunken on purpose. |

I wouldn't adjust it either. It probably sits that way for reason, especially if all of ours are like that. As someone else said, it doesn't bother me at all.

If you adjust the deck lid up, you are strongly risking a leak into the trunk.

I've noticed this off and on for years, noticed it again last night applying wax to the car. Kind of glad to hear we all have the same thing (I won't say "same issue"). Guess I won't adjust it then!
So glad to find archived posts like this. Not always so glad when people resurrect them but just wanted to say thanks. |
