Why does the DCT shift on it's own even in manual mode?

Does anyone know why the DCT will upshift on it's own when the RPM's are at redline when in manual mode? I hate that it does that, especially when I'm autocross racing and the trans upshifts without me knowing it did until I realize the car is not accelerating as expected, then I either shift into 4th or 2nd trying to recover. I've driven someone elses car that was an auto, don't remember what it was, and it would stay in gear and just sit at the rev-limiter until shifted.

I didn't realize it did this...I will be upgrading my skill set to using the paddle shifters this year. Agree that this would be non-optimal behavior. Wonder if it can be coded out?

No has been able to code this out yet. Hopefully eventually. MHD can disable the kick-down button on the pedal since it's a function of the ECU, but auto upshift is a function of the transmission controller which doesn't have a flash or anything yet.

FWIW,
Auto will act the same. But we can code/tune it out.

It can be coded out of the Auto-trans gearboxes now we have XHP; so hopefully it's just a matter of time for DCT owners.

The reason it comes that way is that it is expected behaviour for a regular user. I've used this function in my wife's subaru on a few occasions, because it's easy to forget you're in manual mode after hours of highway driving in top gear, then it'll shift down for you automatically when you slow down or pull over; then you'll be in a screaming hurry to take off and just forget to upshift.

For a regular user - it's safer (and what you'd expect of an auto trans) to go to redline then upshift, so you keep building speed with the throttle flat to the floor - rather than rudely bouncing off the rev limiter like in a real manual.

The 'real' expected behaviour for an enthusiest wouldn't just be to bounce off the rev limiter when you forget to upshift; but to wait until the car is at a complete stop before changing down from 6th gear. (And if you're not applying the brake, stay locked up so the car rolls forward at idle in 6th until it stalls)

Not this bullsh*t behaviour where it automatically changes down for me in M mode because the car decided I was going too slowly for 6th gear.

Unfortunately that can't be coded out of the 6AT either.

Is there any tune available for a DCT?
