!!!$1,000 to reserve BMW 1-Series!!!

Hello All,

Although i am new to the forum, i am no stranger to the 1-Series or BMWs.

After tracking this car for a year, BMW finally plans on bring it to the US. So i went to the BMW dealer and put an EARLY $1,000 Non-refundable payment down to reserve this car.

i guess thats the price you pay to be the first one on the waiting list in El Paso, TX

It's your money, but I don't believe that putting a nonrefundable deposit down on a car is ever a good idea.

from my experience, a deposit for a BMW is always refundable. I think if your dealer made you sign something that said the deposit is non-refundable hes seriously in the wrong!

I'm pretty sure it's illegal for them to claim it non-refundable.

Wow, there was no way I was doing that. Its not like they are in a dying need of the sale. This thing will sell like hotcakes IMO.

when negotiating with my dealer his facial expression made it clear he threw-up a little bit in his mouth whenever he had to agree the deposit was refundable.

it was almost funny.

i put down 1k but i can get it back if i want. but seriously ... if i don't like the car then i'll just get a 335 instead.

This is not to flame you brfbmw128i, you make every salesman happy: compulsive, wanna be the first one in the block to have this car and is willing to put a non refundable deposit. Every salesman would want customers like you.

no harm done,

no paper work was signed, i just want to secure the car.

before buying my 350Z, i was looking at the 325i, but because in the market im in, the one i wanted would have taken some months to get.

I live in a military populated-town next to mexico, this car would never see the dealer lot:smile:

I paid 1k for my spot as well. Fully refundable, what's there to worry? Except for the interest lost there really isn't anything to worry about.

I am probably #1 on the list as well but it doesn't mean I am commited to buy. If the deal isn't to my liking I walk away.

You're right, but most of the dealers don't even ask for a deposit or they ask for a $500 max, 100% refundable. Not a big deal though, as long as you don't need that money, you're fine

I will only put my name on a list if it is free. No sense to separate myself from some cash for a car that I have never seen or sat in or driven.

This won't be a limited edition car. Its not a Z8, there'll be plenty of it. $1k is all for the bragging rights.
