Triangle with Snow Flake symbol

Recently, with the temperature dropping I see a Triangle with Snow Flake symbol on the dash board. This is for about 3 seconds and then it disappears. I looked at the back pages of the owners manual and I do not seam to find what it means. I suspect the car's engine is cold and therefore it warns me of it... don't know. I also find the suspension and gas acceleration a little stiffer than normal. but disappears after about 3 blocks or so of driving. Anyone else having that?

I would guess that it means air temps have dropped to 0 degrees so watch out for ice if the roads are wet.

It indicates the outside temperature is at or below 37 degrees F and there is a possibility of ice on the road surface.

Not yet but on my old S60 a symbol like that would come up when it hit 3 degrees or below. It just tells you that the road temperature is near where ice might form.

funny, when mine did that little spikes poked out the tires... LOL batman!!!

Yup I saw it too, lets not forget the little bell...

Mine came on after driving for a while, so I assumed it was from the window wiper sensor.

Wonder what other treats we are in for?

Hi Guys, Whenever the ambient (outdoor) temperature drops below 3 Degrees Celsius, the Triangle/Snowflake symbol will show briefly in the display between your guages. This is to warn you that Roads may be slippery and that you should drive with caution. There is nothing wrong with your vehicle, it's just a warning to keep you aware of the temperature outside because frost tends to form at around this temperature.

I had the same warning come up. At first i was like, "you are WRONG BMW, its not snowing!!". Then i admittedly accepted the fact that my car wasnt equipped with a snow sensor .. sigh..

Cool! Hey David from Durham. I going have another posting with a picture of my door leather/vinyl cover bubbling off my door. I never used chemicals and is not an area where any parts of my arm/hand would lean against or press into. Prior to posting, what would the dealer do if I show up with that problem? Will they fix it? If not, how do I create a case to have it fixed?

I got this triangle for the first time Sunday night in Connecticut! It scared me at first but then I figured it must be the same as the snowflake that used to appear when the temperature was something like +/5 degrees from 32in my Audi. It's funny that when it's below a certain temperature, it stops appears as if it is so cold out that you must know that there could be ice!

wtiger127: Please post the picture on the forum so i know what part of the door panel you are talking about. Parts of it are a synthetic vinyl and the center inserts are genuine leather (if your vehicle is equipped with Boston Leather, if not, then it will be a leatherette insert). Your dealership should be able to take care of it for you because it seems to be a manufacturer defect, but don't take my word for it. These situations are all taken care of on a case by case basis.

Thanks,

David Kim

You guys in TO got the snow flake already?
We don't expect that for at least another month, maybe two.

I don't know about a month or two. I'm expecting to get it by the first week of November in the early mornings.

I live in a Vancouver suburb and have had the snowflake already as well. Looks like it could be a cold winter this year!

It comes up when the temperature dips below 3c. I'm riding on summers still.. until I change the 5 to winters and store the vert :/

Luckily, that cold spell should just be that day. Looks good for next few!

EDIT: by the way, it warns of possible black ice, that's why it's 3c.

I've had the snowflake out here in the Valley for at least a week now.

One morning last week it read 1.5 °C.

It's usually warmed up past 5°C or 6°C by the time I get near the Portmann.

.

Edit: um yeah, sorry, scrap that... we're still hitting double figures until well into December here on the West Coast!

That soon? I'm holding off one more weekend until November 1st. I don't want my snowies wearing prematurely.
