I remember when I had my E90 328i and I had to take it into the shop and I got the new 328i as the loaner, that was the first time my car then at the time felt 'old' and I was actually a little jellyfish
Since then I traded in for the 135i I have.. I've been near m235's and seen plenty on the road, the only thing I'd say makes me feel like im in a older car are the headlights. OSS can fix that! I've never experienced the same feeling I had with my 3 Outside of that I was just thinking today I prefer to keep modding my car and maybe refinancing it for a lower payment than I would consider buying a 235i or 335i within the next 2-3 years. I love my 1, and so much left to do that will just blow any stock 235i out the water.. for a fraction of the price since the 2 at this point is muhc more expensive

One thing that caught my eye and it's getting common on both the 2 and 3 series is the hood doesn't extend over the grill and is inset with the plastic bits extending over the top to meet the hood. Maybe this is the Euro pedestrian standards at work but it just looks weird. The 2-series rear is pretty plain and I hate it.
I had a brand new 328xi loaner the other day. Engine had nice torque and handle well but the steering was too numb. That and $52K price tag on it I'd never buy it for a family car. Don't get me started but BMW and a lot of other brands tack on the navi screen on top of the dash. So much for integration and welcome in cost cutting. 2M better be good.
