V8 M3 Cowel Retrofit

Has anyone performed a v8 m3 cowel retrofit into their 1M?

I previously had the bms cowel filters on my E92 335 and it was a bit too untidy for my liking.

I have read that on the E82, that the windshield nozzles may or may not interfere and would like clarification or guidance if anyone here as done this retrofit.

Images below are just for reference....Iv been struggling to find the below parts except from the dealer at an exhorbitant cost.

this is the thread I started on doing it. I have done it again on my 1M. You can purchase the parts from ECS

The windshield nozzles do rub a bit, but not enough to damage or bother with.

I think there's a thread somewhere on here where people are talking about replacing the nozzles with the nozzles out of a Mini so that they don't rub, let me see if I can find it. Place holder post for now, if I find that other post I'll be back.

Edit* The thread that the person above linked was the one I was thinking about. Post #55 is where the discussion about these different nozzles start. Also, in post #69, someone finally found an oem solution to hold the leftover wiring instead of using a ziptie.

@hunterl41 , your engine bay is glorious! I love your intake and those strut braces.

Unfortunately ecs isnt an option for me because with shipping and customs to South Africa, its more or less the same price that the local dealers quoted me. In my currency, South African Rands, its about R13000, which equates to almost $900

@dtla1 , thank you for that informative post and reference

Schmiedmann. better priced too.

Does the engine loom cover and tray fit 1 series cars? Remember reading about the loom not having enough slack in it - might be imagining things.

Might have been not enough loom on an N55 car? On the N55 the loom sits tighter against the engine than against the cowl, it actually snaps into one of the engine cover pieces instead of hanging from the cowl.

Thanks... Your other option is checking Ebay, and or local junk yards or maybe some SA 335 members. the cowl only consists of a couple pieces of plastic that don't get a lot of wear and tear, so you may be able to find them second hand or from somebody parting out a wreck.

Good luck. it really frames the engine nicely when installed.

What is the purpose of this retrofit. Just curious, I don't understand why? Does it make you go faster? Weight savings? More reliable? Get you a hotter girlfriend? or Boyfriend? Make you last longer in lovemaking? Promote world peace? Help the environment?

Easier access to the valve cover trim...I believe it can be removed without first removing the cowel if the M3 version is used. Also provides better access to an oil catch can if you have it mounted to the strut brace.

Makes working in the engine bay alot easier, usually you would first need to remove the cowel before you could remove the engine cover or get to the charge pipe , drain your oil catch can, get to your ecu if you have a jb4 etc etc.

Other benefits would be reduced weight, the stock cowel weights 5kg's+, i dont have access to weigh the m3 one but the fact that its not that solid piece of plastic that spans the width of the engine bay, I am assuming it would be lighter. I stand to be corrected but i also think the M3 cowel will allow heat to be released as its not being blocked by the cowel( I know my bms cowel filters did this as you could see the heat haze off the windscreen in our hot South African summer days)

Lastly, I think it just looks so much neater and nicer!

^^^^^ All of these things ^^^^^

I can confirm it's probably half the weight of OEM. The OEM one is a much denser and heavier plastic than the M3 piece.
