Interesting find about slime tire repair and TPMS
As most of us have read and probably heard "fix a flat" and "slime" are not safe for TPMS. Since I am getting ready to switch over to non run flat winter tires with TPMS and don't want to have to wait for a tow truck that can take 2 hours plus. I did a little searching on the internet and found this (see below). Here is the website I found it on. http://www.slime.com/index.php?p=faq
I am still a bit skeptical but figure if you only use a little and not the whole can to fill the tire only enough to make the leak stop (couple of squirts) it shouldn't gunk up the sensor. BMW seems to confirm that tire sealant is safe as they sell an air compressor with built in tire sealant Mobility kit. But does state "not for use with run flats". Not sure why. I don't believe the statement is related to TPMS as TPMS's are on 2002 and up 3 series and not all came with run flats. If anyone knows why, would appreciate the info. Curious to know. Well thought I would share the find for others wondering about riding without run flats and no spare. My vehicle has a TPMS device; can I use SLiME? TPMS STATEMENT OF COMPATIBILITY As leaders in the tire care and repair industry, Accessories Marketing, Incorporated (AMI), the manufacturers of SLiME Tire Sealant wish to address the mandate set forth in the Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act, passed in the fall of 2000. In response to this mandate, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) established the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that requires the installation of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) to all vehicles by September 1, 2007. From our findings, and after significant dialog with the leading manufacturers of TPMS devices, SLiME Tire Sealant will not damage TPMS devices. We understand TPMS manufacturers have conducted extensive testing to ensure their sensors remain operational after exposure to any chemical fluids that might come into contact with the sensors. This includes after market products, such as SLiME Tire Sealant. AMI has also conducted independent testing, which supports and verifies SLiME Tire Sealant’s compatibility with TPMS devices. Currently, there are two types of TPMS devices available: Direct and Indirect. SLiME Tire Sealant’s TPMS formulation is compatible with all TPMS systems. However, it is important to note that once installed, Slime Tire Sealant may come in contact with the sensor in a way that renders the sensor TEMPORARILY inoperable until it is properly cleaned, inspected and re-installed by a tire care professional. Because SLiME is a water soluble flat repair treatment, it is easily removed from the tire with water. At the time the affected tire is inspected by a tire care professional, they should clean the sealant from the tire, prepare the area and repair with a Rubber Manufacturer’s Association (RMA) approved patch/plug. The TPMS device should also be cleaned off with water to remove any sealant which may have come into contact with the device. Do not use any fine objects to ream and clean the small pressure sensor opening as it may damage the electronics. After the repaired tire is replaced and inflated the TPMS system will resume operating as normal. Please note that SLiME is recommended as a REPAIR for all Over the Road (OTR) applications.

I may come across as an elitist prick, but why would you put something called slime in your BWM?
The BMW Mobility Kit at $98 shipped is not exactly cheap, but not outrageous either - and safe to use on our cars obviously.

A kit from slime is $40. Has all the stuff the BMW kit has. What is the compelling reason to spend the extra $60?

That's a perfectly good reason in my book to go with a product which will not damage it for sure. Slime may work, but unless they guarantee my TPMS, I won't use it. If on the other hand I use the BMW kit and against all expectations the TPMS becomes damaged, I can take it to the service manager and get a new one out of BMW...

In that case, I would buy the slime kit for the air pump or find the air pump only. Then get the BMW sealant replacement bottle. I don't believe BMW will make you spend 98$ again on the Kit with the pump just for a new sealant bottle. In anycase, in Canada this is not an issue so any combination of the above is good. At least for winter tire usage.

I did just find that fix a flat says its sensor safe too. Wonder if the formula has changed over the years to be less detrimental to TPMS's

just use it, it will probably work fine and not damage the sensor. If it does, for some odd reason, damage the sensor the money that you saved by buying slime or fix-a-flat instead of bmw's kit can be used to buy a new sensor

Where can you get the BMW Mobility kit for $98?? It seems like it is a bit more than that and that's not even shipped.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101038&highlight=mobility+kit I didn't know about this special so my initial price was higher - but the salesperson was nice enough to point me in the right direction.
