Thumbs down Brake dust?!!?!?

Anyone notice an unusually high amount of brake dust showing up on the wheels? I've got 6200 miles on my car, and while I'm aware that new pads will let off more dust than worn pads, I've got tons of brake dust on my wheels just a day or two after washing the car! And it doesn't let up...its getting to the point that it's kicking up onto the actual car, like I ran through dirty water or something. It honestly sprays up like liquid would.

Anyone else notice this?

Not just BMW's, but all German makes have the same problem eg. Audi, MB.
Must be their suppliers' choice of materials.

I love it when my wheels(162s) are a bit dirty with brakedust. Actually I love it when a brandnew car is a little 'SCHMUTZIG'(German)

How dirty the wheels get with brake dust probably depends to some extent on the wheel design. I notice that my E46 sports package wheels stay a lot cleaner than the non-sports wheels I had on my E36 and on previous 3's. I don't remember the Style Numbers but the E46 sports wheels have 5 very thin spokes and very large openings so maybe better air flow blows the brake dust away to contaminate the countryside rather than the car.

This may sound stupid but one time I was kind of drunk while washing my car, I realized that Gunmetal rims would might pretty good on my SG E90.

That's the one thing I have always noticed on BMW vehicles. I have seen many beautiful Bimmers rolling around but the second I look down to the front wheels, I always immediately think, "damn! That's one dirty tire!!!"

Dually noted...thanks for the pep talk!!!

As for the Zaino comment...I've read about all the products they have on the site, and there's so damn much...can anyone tell me the simplist way to do it? I don't want to buy sixteen different bottles of wax and cleaner and this and that...just give me the basics if you would.

German cars are notorius for brake dust, but it will be less as your brake pads wear in. I also have noticed something else - I was in the usual heavy commuter traffic today with 2 other 3ers (E46's). While I left the usual 4-5 car lengths between me and the car in front and tried to find a cumfy speed that would keep me off the brake, they were right on the back of their leaders and their brake lights were on almost constantly. We all arived at the off ramp together, so they didn't gain anything. Moral: less braking = less brake dust.

Brake dust

Little the brake dust depents of course on wheel design.I had earlier on E46 17" Design 50 almost no brake dust.

And the biggest reason is :

On most cars brake dust goes inside{under car}

But on BMW goes on outer side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why?

Go and stretch a little bit front of the car and see bumper.

WHAT OTHER CAR HAS TAHAT PARICULAR AIR TUNEL FOR BRAKE COOLING??????????And that blows dust out.3

Simply isn`t it?
