Dealers STRONG Pricing Estimate :(
Talked to my guys at Shelly BMW on numerous occasions. They are nearly dead 100% certain that the 335i will be in the high, to very high $30,000's.
My gut instinct to concreteness… is that the 335i will start at $36,000. I am very disappointed in this. To the average guy, they are feeling certain $5,500 will be enough of a carrot to lure a buyer wanting an upgrade from the 128i but not able to go to $41,500 for a base sport 335i Sedan, and who certainly can't make it into the Coupe 335i pricing territory (or insurance.) There will be a $150 to $250 a month difference in lease payment. That's enough, but not for me. I think BMW is making a HUGE mistake. They are poised to obliterate Honda Accord V6, Camry V6, Honda 2000 and other buyers should they mark the base Leatherette Sport 135i in the $33,000 range. No one in their right mind would buy a Jap car with this package available But BMW apparently is on their own page. Fools. Mark my words: $36,000 to $41,000. |

If they asked me to price the 135i - I'd say make it a $500 to $1K stretch above the median base price of an Evo X and WRX STi - but then they don't ask me. ; -)

Im sure those guys would love to sell a base 135i for 36,000. But I want to know what the real base price is. It's all just talk, anyway. They know no more than we know.

I got an e-mail today from a dealer in Calgary. The guy stated that they still don't have exact dates/numbers, but they they were informed to expect the pricing to be around 28k - 42 k going from a base 128i, to full load 135i.
But again, he said nothing was offical and to take any published #'s right now "with a grain of salt". BTW, that's Canadian dollars, so if you think how AR did their pricing that would work out to around 23 - 37k US. Personnally I would looooooove to get into a 128 for under 30, but realistically the 28k mark is around what most people are thinking for US, sooo I'm expecting to be more around low-mid 30's. |

All of the articles I have read, and I have talked to my local BMW dealer also, I really believe that the price of the 135i will range from standard of $35,000-$39,000 depending on equipment, (still under a base 335i), and the 128i will be in the range of $28,000.-$33,000. I reason this on the fact that the mini coopers can run most times from $22,000-$28,000 depending on equipment. If they price the 128i in the $26,000-$27,000. range, they would be competing against themselves. I know they are two different cars but still the fact remains, they could lose some Mini sales if priced to closely together. I would think they would go for a logical progression on their pricing, Mini- ($22,000-$28,000), 1 Series ($28,000-$39,000), 3 Series ($35,000.-$49,000). Although this is not fact , and everyone has an opinion, and entitled to it, this is my best guess. It will be interesting to see how things come out.

I have no control over the pricing of either 1er coupe model, so I chose to stop stressing about it, and anticipate to adapt whatever the outcome. Worlds not over if the 135 is beyond my financial reach.

Very well put! Those that say, I'd rather get the 335i if its a xxxx difference really arent obsessed about this car IMHO. Deep down they really want the 335i.

You know, I think the 335i Coupe does indeed have better looks than the 135i. But then, it's all about...
Smaller, lighter, smaller, lighter...

I like value for money. So out of the 3 cars, for me its a big consideration. The 135i is f*cking close 0-60 as an M3 for $35k-$40k less. But the 335i is a hell of a ride, nicer looking than the 1 series and a list of other things. Possibly I might be a rare case of being ABLE to afford an M3, but see the value of a cheap, fast, well built car like the 1 series, and not WANTING to afford the M3. |
