Follow up call from salesman
I spoke with him again and expressed the disgust of many on here about what he said about pricing yesterday on my now locked thread. Again he reiterated my sentiments about how could they price the car so low. He also said the car will be geared more towards enthusiasts and they will not be producing a ton of cars. He also said the same amount of money was spent on the development of the 1 series as the 3, and that BMW had a large investment in the car. Apparently the NA rep is not aware of this site, but "she" was very interested to get more feedback from people like us and wanted the site address... Who knows maybe it will help change something before the final decision is made, so dont lock the thread.

Dear GOD I wish this endless nonsense about price would DIE!
No salesperson knows. "...how could they price the car so low..."

What's the name of the BMW NORTH AMERICAN REP?
I'm sure that person should be tight lipped via a NDA.

Once again I hate to sound cynical, but it stikes me as pretty strange that this one particular salesman of yours, & a high ranking BMW NA rep are passing along pretty specific pricing info to you, when everyone else in the US automotive press & the best industry moles don't seem to be able to come up with this stuff.

Sorry I dont speak like that. Why even have this forum, if we cant discuss it??? Of course if this thread said the car would base at 30K it would be allowed to stay, right? Time to face reality buddy.

Sorry djminkin, I’m not trying to flame at all but I’m also pretty skeptical of what they’re telling you. Beyond the fact that the pricing details they are telling you are pretty far off the mark from what the automotive press has been stating, as well as what BMW Managers themselves have stated, the whole “[/size]the same amount of money was spent on the development of the 1 series as the 3, and that BMW had a large investment in the car” is pretty far from the truth. For example, the 1 has been in Europe for a couple years now, and the engines for the North American 1’s are taken straight out of the 3 series. The front end of the vehicle is also quite clearly based on the previous gen 3 series.
What I’m trying to say is that the 1 takes a lot of its parts straight out of the BMW parts bin and there isn’t too much that’s new to it besides the size. I think there is even a quote somewhere from BMW that gives the percentage of parts that are taken straight from the 3 (and it’s a high percentage). To turn a hatch into a coupe and shoehorn a bigger engine under the bonnet doesn’t require a large investment. The moral of the story is, regardless of who you spoke to, there are some pretty serious inconsistencies in what they’ve been stating. I think that’s why a lot of people on this forum are so up in arms. And I agree, we should just wait the month or so for actual pricing to come out. |

"We dont have an exact answer but a well equiped 135i should be ~35K." I dont expect that to be exactly correct, but stating that 37K is the base price of 135i is just really really STUPID. Its not rational and illogical. I think we should wait and watch and let BMW work the numbers ... |

ok was their really a reason to start up another thread about all this? Not one person out there will know the price of this car. Not until it goes up on BMWUSA.com.
Please don't believe everything these dealers tell you. |
