You car will come with a recent (last one or two versions) of the Navteq map for North America. If you do European Delivery, you will not be given a European map DVD. You can "rent them" from people on bimmerfest.com though.

Sure you can, if you want to pay for it. They are obviously not free. I believe they are 300 EU, or ~$450 US for the DVD. I would suggest renting one.
Btw, your local dealer in the States supplies the US DVD, on redelivery included in the cost of the car (contains Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii maps as well). |

More correctly it should be described as 'haptic feedback'.
The company that provided this hardware to BMW was Immersion: http://www.immersion.com/automotive/ BMWs original iDrive controller could change the way it 'felt' to the user depending on what was available to select on-screen. For example, you would feel resistance if you rotated the controller and you reached the end of a list - it would prevent you rotating it any further, thus giving you tactile feedback. It was very clever really and I was disappointed to see them drop it, but many users were complaining that it was buggy and irritating at times. It was also only on cars with Professional Navigation systems, not Business. The Business Navigation system had the same non-haptic controller that all the new cars have now. Paul Martin |
