Engine and Transmission mounts...what did you upgrade to and why?
Looking at getting new engine mounts and transmission mounts. Not ready to go solid...this car still gets driven on the street quite a bit, but figure I should upgrade beyond factory if I am doing it. TIA!

I ended up buying Revshift engine mounts. Have yet to install.
Installed Rogue transmission mounts and found them to be perfect for a street car. No real NVH increase, but definite improvement in shift quality.

I'm thinking about doing the RE ones. I have E46 M3 mounts now but I want to tighten up the transmission even more after driving a friend's Z4 M, not sure I'll get it quite that good though lol.

The shiftier carrier itself also has a lot of play in it. Consider getting delrin bushings for the two front bushings and figuring out a way to stiffen the rear mount. I filled mine with liquid poly which usually doesn't last long.

can you explain a little more? What's the shifter carrier? How difficult to install bushings?

Or this: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...it/2511-002~3/ Part number 5 doesn't have any "upgrade" part as far as I know but it is very soft and has a lot of play in it. There is a groove through the middle that almost makes the bushings hollow similar to the rear sub-frame bushings. I filled that groove with Poly to stiffen the bushing and it made a pretty noticeable difference. |

It's doable with small hands. You can bend the heat shield back and reach up behind the transmission. Look at the install instructions for a DSSR if you want to get an idea of what you would be looking at.
If you undo the transmission mounts you can pull the trans down to gain more room. The two bolts that hold that rear bushing in are actually a big pain. I had to use a wrench with very small turns since a socket wouldn't fit over the top of the bolt. It is doable though. It will probably be blind. Once you undo the rear bushing the shifter carrier will be free to droop and you can slide the bushing off. Last edited by bbnks2; 08-23-2018 at 11:26 AM.. |

Turner solid engine and trans mounts. Raised idle to 1000 rpm and all good.

Reviving this thread as I deferred doing this last year but ECS is having a sale so...I'll ask the question a different way...is there any real performance reason to get stiffer mounts if you have a DCT? Car is almost at 100K so it's about time to replace motor and trans mounts anyway. Just need to decide stock or aftermarket.

Manual 128i, but I did E46 M3 trans mounts and AKG engine mounts. Thinking back, I’d do 034Motorsports engine mounts or new OEM ones, these AKG ones are brutal in the best way possible.

DO NOT DO 034 MOUNTS. Mine came apart after maybe 5000 miles.
For my swap I'm doing the turner solid mounts.

I wonder if they have revised the design at all to address these issues.

I did the softer of the two options for the Turner Engine Mounts. Did increase NVH a bit, livable for sure, but it's not the ultra smooth GT car that some people may be after. Specifically at idle the car vibrates a bit more.

I discovered the issue when I pulled the engine and one of the mounts came out in two pieces (the lower plastic disc had separated from the rest of the mount housing.) I didn't bother going back to get it fixed/replaced because the shop is now an hour away...and my car currently has no engine.

Further update:
I finally had the solid diff mounts installed. No noticeable increase in NVH but I already had a solid diff brace installed, which at the time did make diff whine noticeable, which is something I've learned to live with and ignore. Summary of installed solid mounts:
