Prices are great. I actually purchased the waterpump/tstat/bolts/coolant kit earlier today from them. Waterpump has been good so far at 68k but having some parts installed figured I'd save on labor and do waterpump as well.

No problem. They're local to me, so I get lucky and get everything within 2 days. Granted they don't have the largest selection, they have PLENTY of the important pieces to keep my N55 on the road lol

You guys should check out BMW PNPC.

I use PNPC to find the best price and than I have FCP match it.

FYI tried to order the Water Pump & Thermostat for my 2010 n55 build. The thermostat is on national back order. Couldn't give me a date on when more would be in.

I believe so. He told me he couldn't give me a date. Said it could be a week or close to a month before more would be in. I may be mistaken and may be only the store on back order.

It was OEMbimmerparts.

I have an 08 135 with 87k miles.

Noticed a small drip leak last week in the garage, no signs otherwise. Took it in and there was a leak where the plastic meets the metal on the water pump.

Water pump, thermostat, and coolant flush from Indy $1100.
Price check for the same at the BMW dealer $1600.

After reading this thread, I guess i'm lucky to have made it to almost 90k and 8 years.

I just bought my 1 (79K mi) and asked the dealer (not BMW) specifically to look for evidence that the pump was replaced, since I know they can't just "know". Techs said looked like the bolts had been tweaked since it left the factory. A little encouraging, but I'm still worried. I'm supposed to get the maintenance records from the PO (or at least that's what the salesmen said, apparently the PO is tight with the dealership, bought 90k car when he traded the 1 in). If I can't get a 100% guarantee that it was done, I'm just gonna drop the ~$400 and do it myself. Don't feel like getting a tow bill and THEN spending the money on the pump.

87k '11 135i DCT and I had no sign what so ever.

60+ mi. drive home in 90 degree heat the day before with absolutely no problem, the next day, same drive to work a cool 55 degrees, and boom, overheating.

Edit for pricing:
$1263 at Richmond BMW in VA

Interesting thing for me at least because I put 30k miles on this little beast a year, the water pump has a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty.

Overheating randomly

Have a 2013 135is, H55 engine, 6 speed manual now with 55,000 miles. Just had to do power steering pump and serpentine tensioner at 51,000. dealer said "your problem" even though I told them before 50,000 it was moaning when I was turning.

Now 4,000 miles later I have had 3 Red light overheat warnings with limp mode taking over (this first one was after a hard acceleration ). I coasted to a turn off with the fan was running hard and loud. Shut the engine off with key in and the fan continued to run. I noticed some coolant splashes which I assume came from overflow breather valve. I waited 5 min. started it back up and NO warning. Drive away gingerly without problems.

The next day similar but after just normal driving. I pulled over shut off the engine and let fan run for 5 min. Restarted and no warning light everything was fine for another day then same thing!!

I would assume this is a classic example of a failing water pump. Really a blessing considering I was able to get home and get it in the garage.

I ordered a pump, thermostat, hoses, coolant and mounting bolts. Watched the DIY video and going to do the work. Anyone think it is possible its a random sensor or radiator cap problem?

Thanks

BTW: love the car but this is my first BMW after owning only Honda's my whole life. I'm starting to wonder about my decision.

Not sure about your symptoms, my pump failed without warning (red alert in the center of the cluster and limp mode). I shut her down immediately and got a CPO tow, no reason to risk it knowing what the problem is and that I'm under warranty. I understand your situation is a bit different.

If I was to WAG it, I'd wonder if the problem is your thermostat? Either way, you're replacing everything and I'd expect you to be good.

I was bitching to a buddy earlier today about my pending HPFP fail. Whenever I do that, he always goes back to the fact I should be in a Japanese car. Funny, I just can't see that, I've been in German cars since 1983 (although, honestly, I don't know all that's out there).

I just responded to your poll. Mine just failed with only 15,500 miles on the clock [and one year out of warranty]. I drive it very little and rarely push it hard. The oil housing seal had also failed and needed to be replaced and resealed. Not sure when that started leaking. Do you have any thought? I'm thinking of selling the car.

Well... this is all normal stuff that fails. I wouldn't sell the car over this, especially now that its fixed. I still have my original OFH seals... no leaks yet, with 134K kms of use. Then again... I do all my oil changes... so I don't over torque the oil filter cap. I believe that is what causes the OFH gasket to twist and leak.

The only car I would replace my 135i with would be a M2.

Dackel

But is it normal stuff that fails with only 15.5K miles on it? That's what kinda freaks me out and makes me wonder what major deal is gonna happen next and maybe soon. Repair costs out here are huge and, frankly, I can't afford it. I understand what you mean about over torqueing the oil filter cap but my car is only serviced by BMW or certified BMW mechanics at a competing garage.

Ditto on the M2.

Add me to the list with 47k miles, I just responded to the poll as well. I recently took my car in to Indy shop for F/R brake pads, rear shocks and A/C recharge. When I got car back I noticed occasional drips which at 1st I thought it was A/C condensation since I had recently gotten the A/C recharged and using it most of the time but a closer look revealed the bad news. I put up a stink with the Indy shop since I found it to be too coincidental but they showed me and I later agreed that it was nothing they did. They are asking 1k and thinking of having them doing it instead of trying to DIY with no lift or rolling until it fails. Is 1k reasonable for this job?

Compared to repair prices out here in Honolulu it sounds reasonable to me. I paid $2,500 (after 10% new customer discount) at Bavarian Motor Experts to replace my water pump and oil housing seal (which had cracked and was leaking). BMW Honolulu would have charged more.
