scott has a very good track record. as far as i'm concerned this is confirmation that an M1 (by some name) will be made at some time down the road.

i'm going to go ahead and get the 135 then upgrade when the time comes!

looking at the big picture, if it's the goal of bmw to move the m3 to another price-point / luxury level then it makes complete sense to introduce the 135 to fill the gap so they don't leave people behind.

Same here. That will be pretty annoying to be locked into a 135i when M1 is released, but US release date isn't until March/08. There are still plenty of time for more news to come out of Munich.

That sir, right there is a freakin monster. Imagine Hartge stuffs the new M3 engine in there and prices it $10k below the E92 M3 (which we know won't happen) It will be the day M3 drivers give up their M3 for the M1. I am sure a lot of e46m3 owners will jump on that bad boy.

I agree. At least 1.5-2 years. I mean look how long the M3 took to get here AND we all knew it was coming. Its going to end up being 2yrs after the 335i.

hopefully they take their time and dont fuck it up by making it too sissy

i was heart set on a 135 the minute i found out we would be getting the n54 in the einer. but i wont be able to actually purchase til around 2010 and after what scott said and developing my idea of what the M1 could be i find it hard to sleep. carbon fiber roof (maybe even more CF panels?), aluminum e46 inline 6 with all the goodies of the m3, less sound deadening, ultra light wheels, even more aggressive front fascia, stiff and adjustable/magnetic suspension, just any kind of drastic weight saving strategy. a small, light, rwd, yet somehow practical, engineering masterpiece, and my timing should be perfect. i can see my black one now, its going to be a long 2.5 years.

According to wikipedia 1's current platform is going to be refreshed in 2011 so I believe BMW will either release a M1 3-6 month after the 135i or wait until 2012 to build M1 on the new platform. If we don't hear any news on the M1 by the end of this year I don't think it will come under the E87 platform. Of course, if I am wrong I will eat my own words or eat crow's feet like Jim Cramer.

Well I was starting to get annoyed that my E92 lease still has 2+ years on it...was gonna have to wait for the 135i...now I can just wait on the M1.

yeah you do have a point, mostly because the 1 series was really released (overseas) in 2004. but that means they will only be running the coupe, the only model being introduced to NA, for 3 years; thats a lot of investment for such short product life. also i wouldnt hold that as the most credible source as it was from a graph and not in stated text and is probably just a guess based on the idea of the standard bmw chassis cycle. but i guess really the only alternative i could suggest is they evolve the 3/5dr separately.. which i dont buy into but i still cant help but doubt that they pull or remodel the coupe after 2-3 years.

BMW has done this sort of thing in the past, the very recent past. My heart goes out to all those that bought the E90 330 and shortly thereafter the 335 was released. That's why these forums are essential. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to buying a car.

While the CCA and The Roundel are great! The Roundel has never been known as a reliable source for knowledge of what is in the pipeline or being considered by the board of directors.

serious question because i don't know the answer: how long had the E90 330 been produced prior to the introduction of the 335i?

You are correct. I am one of those people, :frown: but I also ordered my 330 six months after they had been released. It is still a great car!

E90 production began in Feb. 2005 (325 & 330). BMW Center demos arrived at the end of April, the first of May and the US launch was May 14th. Production ran until August of 2006. Sept 2006 was when the E90 335i began production.

I took European Delivery of my E90 330i in mid-May 2005, the 2nd week they were available to those of us in the States.

Same thing happened to me with my E46 though. They only made the E46 323i and 328i for two model years and the 328ci for only one model year before the 325/330 were introduced.

It's really not a big deal to me. It's good to see BMW improving the product, and I still get to use a car that I'm pretty happy with.

If you want a M version of the 1-Series Coupe that might be the best thing to do. Granted the M version may not happen. :iono:

I dont think a lot of 135i buyers would be pissed. I would be happy driving my incredible 33k 135i. Its not like its going to be the same price as a 135i. Its likely gonna come in a good 10-12,000 more!
