I don't consider the Volvo's at all competitive with the 1er.

And the A3 1.8T is:

-based on an economy-car platform.
-FWD only.
-comes in at $26k with some ugly cloth seats.
-with 30 less horsepower (and much slower) than the 128.
-and, to me, is not as good looking as the 1er.

Also, comparably equipped, the price difference isn't even that big.

Jesus people, lets be realistic here. If 1k-3k is really bothering you, you obviously aren't making enough money to justify purchasing a BMW. You really need to get your priorities straight and not even consider purchasing a nice car. Save your money instead and wait to buy a car when you make enough where 3k won't faze you. I didn't even consider buying a nice car until I was making 100k+...instead I drove around in a POS cavalier.

Buffet is a billionaire but he still drives a GM and lives in a house he bought for 35k. 3k may be chomp change but it's still money. I can pay cash for the 135i but I rather have 3k to myself than toss it at the dealer. Those who has 3k to toss around page me I will send my paypal account.

I am perfectly happy with the msrp but I understand where people are coming from.

Most buyers of 128i aren't on this forum and their top priorities won't be performance. Unfortunately, the badge appeal of the BMW is greater than its performance appeal. Hence Volvo, Audi and other luxury brands are competitors.

Horsepower is horsepower, and people aren't fucking stupid. lol.

When you can get a faster, two-door BMW with bigger numbers, and seats that look like they're made of leather, for a little bit more money than a slow "station-wagon" Audi with cloth seats, what do you think will sell more?

I'm telling you man... don't mess with BMW NA Marketing. They're getting paid more than you. They figured it all out a long time ago, I'm sure of it.

Also... I doubt BMW is worried about too many people cross-shopping with Volvo. But that's just me. Audi poses a much more real threat to them. Matching line-ups tell all.

The badge snobbery in this thread is absurd. I make plenty of money to be able to afford this car. I've owned 3 BMWs. The ~1500-2000 difference between what the car is worth *to me* and what it's actually priced at is enough to keep me away. It's not about being poor. It's about what you value.

Caveat emptor

Here's an idea: If it seems like too much money, don't buy it.

But someone should be charging extra for all the whining.

Not for me at that price, especially given the $$$ needed to correct understeer issues. I guess I'll have to wait until I can pick it up for a bit over invoice, unless I fond something else first.

Garage List
2019 BMW M2 Comp  [0.00]
2017 Porsche Macan GTS  [8.00]
2011 M3  [10.00]
2013 bmw F25 msport  [10.00]
2011 335iS  [9.60]
Bmw is a seller of premium cars, so it seems unreasonable to assume that the 135i with brembo brakes, 300hp, moonroof, xenon lights and other standard equipments will sticker for under $35000-- keep in mind that the price announced includes destination charges. So, if the price is seems too high, then show your dissatisfaction by buying something cheaper.

Considering I was originally looking at a 335i, the 135i's price isn't a big kick in the balls but $5K difference is pretty slim. I'll have to "configurate" it  to see how it fares comparably equipped. It may well turn out that the 3 is worth the extra cash. And of course the smart buyers here will have to wait for the "rube tsunami" to subside before trying to cut a decent deal (non-ED).

Also...and this isn't a slam just a question...doesn't the small price margin from a 335i pretty much ensure that the 135i becomes a niche car (with the 128i being the volume seller)? :iono:

Note for BMWCCA members: It looks like the $500 rebate will NOT be offered on the 1-series so that cuts the price diff even further. FWIW, YMMV. :drinking:

At that price, they're going to be going up against the $34,250 330 HP G37 that will likely be better equipped at a lower price.

That price will also put them well above the WRX STi and Mitsu EVO.

I agree. I think that G37 Coupe is starting to look like a good deal. Infiniti's do come pretty well equipement. I remember reading an article when they were first announcing the 135i Coupe for America and it said that BMW wanted to compete with the Japanese turbo's out there(STI, EVO). Well now it looks like there "competing" car is a couple, if not, a few thousand more then I feel it should be. Don't get me wrong, I still love the 135i, but IMO it should be priced around $33k. Then start adding on the Nav($$$???), sport package($$$???), automatic tranny with paddles($1500-$2000+???), and then any other packages or other options they will offer. The 135i will surely be an awesome ride and a unique car but I can see $40k+ easily racking up very quickly with just a couple options not including TTL. This is going to be an expensive little car. I am still interested in buying one though. Or maybe a 335i. :iono:

Not to pick on you.. BUT,.,. (lol) its an extremly rare thing to find a dealer that will do a little over invoice on a 3 series (even if its a year end model) i HIGHLY doubt you will find a dealer that does that for the 1 series even if you are willing to wait till the model year changes.. Im not alone of this thought am i?? I am a dealer so maybe this pertains to my market only but i doubt it..

Yeah I'm interested in that as well. I really want a fully loaded 135i but I'm sure that might reach into the mid $40's range out the door. :iono:
