"Wheel Wax" anyone use this stuff?
My dealer recommends and sells this product called Wheel Wax. American Racing seems to endorse it as well. So far I have applied it and it went on very well and really makes my wheels shine. The break dust just easily wipes off with your finger. However, I haven't had time to test the companies claim that all you need is water to wash off break dust. Just wondering if anyone has tried this stuff yet.
Here the stuff: http://www.wheelwax.com/ |

I use it. It lengthens the time I between wheel cleanings by a few weeks. For the 10 or so dollars it costs I would say that it is worth it.

I use it and like it.
It keeps "bad" stuff from sticking to the wheel surface and makes them much easier to clean. I just spent the morning pulling off my wheels and waxing them as a matter of fact. My hands still smell of the stuff....a strange smell it is.

Great, thanks for all the feedback. I applied it yesterday and look forward to a little easier cleanng now. really shined up the wheel. I only did the outside, but notice that, since I have very open 18" wheels, I am going to have to remove the wheels and do the inside of the wheel as well. Kind of a pain, but I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run.

Yep, take off the wheels and clean up the wheels hubs while you are in there. Some even paint their wheel hubs, I just used a scrubbing pad and then put some grease on mine for now.
WheelWax I guess is just a wax made for this application. I found some on sale and use it now but in the past I just used that cheap NuFinish stuff in the orange bottle with similar results.

@TP 135i:
I never did it on my previous car and on my car that's on order, I opted for an open wheel design so I can get to the back of the wheels easy. |

You do, however, need a low profile jack to get under the car (I bought one right after I got the car)...and I have a jack pad adapter to keep from squishing the stupid BMW plastic jack lift points. I use a torque wrench to reinstall them....88 ft lbs (as I recall). It takes me about 1 hour per wheel (including wax drying time).

The Wheel Wax Wheel Wax works well at cleaning and protecting the wheel in one step. I more general cleaning should be done first but it helps remove some additional build ups left behind. I tend to give a slight advantage to the Poorboy's World Wheel Sealant which doesn't clean but it's protection is a little bit more durable in my experience. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have wheelwax and used it on my old daily driver's OZ Superturismo wheels.
The stuff is good enough and it's better than just using any wax on your wheels. $ says Poor boys wheel sealant is great. I'm sure it is good stuff. I think Swissol aka Now called "Swissvax" has a wheel wax. I may just go get this stuff before the BMW CCA concours Aug 21st. Off topic: ***BTW I just took delievery of my 2011 BWM 128i convertible on Saturday! The car now has 80 total miles on it The lifetime goal is to maintain this car as well as I maintain my E30 325i Using top notch car care products is an ideal move!

Swissvax has indeed a dedicated wheel wax called "Autobahn".
I always went with Poorboys Wheel Sealant in the past on my E87 118d and wheels looked like new when I had to turn it in (company car) after a year of driving (35,000 miles / year). I did change the brake pads though as the stock BMW pads were turning my silver wheels black every week. Thanks to the wax it was coming of easily but less brake dust is less time spending on the wheels and working on the paint instead. @TP 135i: thanks for the information. I'll guess I need to invest in a torque wrench now. |
