My 135 is home.

2010 135i Convertible with 44k and it drove better and tighter than any new car I ever bought. Ironically, this was the first time I ever drove a 135 and Holy Moly, this thing drives, handles, responds AMAZING.
ITS SO SMALL AND SO SOLID AND INCREDIBLY RESPONSIVE.
WOW!!!!!

Like, even all the knobs and buttons and switches feel like they're brand new. There is no wiggle in anything. I'm literally blown away by this car.

Anyway, per Covid, I have an appointment next Saturday with DMV to register it and then it's straight to my loyal repair shop for a Go-Over.

My favorite car to drive of all time was my 73 2002tii.
This 135 might take it's spot soon.

I felt the same way when I got my 2013 128i M-sport 6-speed, having owned a '73 2002tii and a '72 2002tii. About 100 extra horsepower, a little heavier (!), and roughly the same size. What's not to like?

Have fun.

Holy Crap. I'm sick of searching "What should I use" threads. Everyone says LL-01 here in the states, but it's not listed on the back of any of the oils.

So full synthetic, euro spec, 5-30 or 0-40
Pennzoil, Mobil1, or Castrol Edge.....

CAN SOMEBODY JUST PLEASE TELL ME WHAT OIL THEY USE SO I CAN CHANGE MINE TOMORROW. 😀😀😀
I got low miles. I just want to change my oil. Thanks.

Most people are using Castrol Edge 0W-40 or Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40 or 5W-30. The Castrol doesn't have LL01 as of not too long ago but is very good oil. When you can't find an LL01 rated oil, look for MB 229.5 approval.

Both can be found at very good prices at WalMart.

There are plenty of approved oils you can order from the parts sources we all use or even Amazon if you want to move toward the 'boutique' end of the spectrum. Most on here or on oil forums will tell you those are overkill. Especially if you're not going to go long oil change intervals.

I got pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w/30, yesterday but the back says "It exceeds BMW LL 4 standards. That's still cool, right or should I bring it back?

I would use it. I think LL04 is compatible with LL01 requirements, but, not necessarily the other way around. Something to do with SAP's content and the sulfur in US fuel which now is pretty much the same as Europe.

I'm sure someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

There's always been a lot of debate over oil, you should probably be fine. I tend to use 0w and 5w-40 though, although my car never sees actual cold.

Enjoy the car!!

There are tons of usual mods that people do, but if you are enjoying it as is now, then might be best to keep it that way and just drive the crap out of it lol. Any changes can come down the line.

FCP Euro has a program where you can buy a specific oil change kit (BMW rec'd oil for your car, plus filter) and send it back for credit on a new oil change kit. It's sort of a PITA, but saves $ if you like to DIY.
anyway, welcome - and enjoy!

Thank you everyone. I appreciate the feedback and knowledge.

Previous owner was a 75yo guy who put a Dinan Stage 1 chip in it... I chirped the tires a few times by accident on the way home.

I absolutely love this car. And I love that it's kind of a Wolf in Sheep's clothing.

That's def at the top of my list of reasons why I love the car. Small car, most people either only know the 128i model if at all from the 1 series. But even then, if they see it's a 1XX, they most likely think it's the slowest model or something.

That's actually a software flash, not a chip, I believe. There's also Stage 2 & 3. I think you have to add a bigger oil cooler as you increase power, but not for Stage 1.

I had Dinan Stage 2 for my N55 135i (no bigger oil cooler needed) and liked it a lot. Yours is N54 and the tunes are different for N55. I think more power for N54.

Check dinancars.com for more info if you are interested.

PS - a lot of people go with MHD tunes these days, but you sound happy where you are. For now...

Those of us with 128i 6-speed cars would point out that BMW never brought the "slowest" models of the E82 to the USA. A BMW inline 6-cylinder in a car this size is a fast car whether it has a turbo-charger, or not.

Have you driven an E30 M3? I still fondly remember the first one we got at our dealership and the drive home I took it on the first day. What a blast!

A 128i has over 30 more horsepower than an E30 M3, nearly 30-more pound-feet of torque delivered 2,000 RPM earlier, has a higher top-speed, hits 0-60mph over a half-second faster—even though it weighs 440-pounds more.

You should be happy and proud of your E82/88 . . . for all E82 owners. Some of us just would rather drive normally-aspirated sixes!

Ohh believe me, I know. I was more so referring to the general public, someone not into cars, or thinking that sporty/fun to drive cars only looked a certain way.

This is true considering that the majority of the 1er's sold overseas were sold with diesels or the naturally aspirated 4cyl. The 128i is a dream car for 1er enthusiasts living outside North America.

For them it likely would have been called a 130i.
