A few pics from my weekend at the nurburgring

A few pics from my trip to the nurburgring last weekend. The car was epic on the motorway, the country lanes and on the nordschleife it really came to life.

I got to lap the ring a few times in 2012, unforgettable sadly it was in a z4 coupe (rental) and not the 1er.

I'm sure that the Z4 coupe was more than capable around the ring.

I'm sure the car was more than capable and that other drivers weren't a fan of my abilities I was more than thrilled to do it in any 3-pedal BMW. I only phrase it this way, because at the time I had been convinced to not "over-extend" myself on a new 135i while I was deployed there. I'd hoped to pick up a 1er and lap the ring in my own car before shipping back to the states.

Here's a horrible potato video, after the madre had driven her lap and I was taking the last one. Listening to her cringe always cracks me up.

I have timed the bridge to gantry after watching back the on board camera a good few years ago and the quickest lap was 8.47. It's now got bilstein clubsports and a bit more power but i didn't time any hot laps this weekend or the previous trip as I don't like the pressure of it. You have to drive each lap to the conditions, oil on track is a regular occurence and it's not always marked with a warning triangle. You also need to make the right calculated decisions on overtaking as there are motorbikes mixed in with cars and a lot of amateurs. Saturday afternoon was really messy, on 1 lap there were 3 sets of yellow flags/lights and at least 4 slippery surface warning triangles, I was glad just to complete that lap.
I'm currently building a Mégane RS250 as a dedicated track car so that I can do some trackdays again and push a bit more at the ring as the 1M is a bit too precious to me.

Great pics and it looked like a blast!
I remember when I was on the Nordschleife, half the time my eyes were on the rear view mirror looking out for porsche's and m3's.

And I agree with the pressure for lap times, it takes a lot of fun out of it!

We didn't wear helmets for the first lap on Friday and Saturday as they were just slow sighting laps.
