Till it comes in I want to try something tomorrow with some parts I already have from my own clutch stop. Using the stock clutch stop, it looks like I should be able to put in a double nut bolt with a rubber stopper. With that setup it would give me variable position adjustment to maximize the travel reduction. Does it look like the stock piece can be modded as described? I'll take look for myself tomorrow, but I was just curious on what you think the potential is for modding the OEM piece? One poster said that he thinks overall reduction is about 1". If so then it'll be perfect. |

it's 100% safe. think about it this way: if it was causing premature wear on the clutch or preventing the clutch from fully engaging, the car wouldn't start initially. on top of that, people have been running clutch stops on e46's and older bmws for years with zero issues.

Agreed, fully safe. Ran the Rogue Engineering one on my M5 for years, no issue whatsoever.
The seller is great btw, for some reason it took a while to get the first clutch stop (due to US postal service and no fault of his own), so he sent me a second one which arrived in 2 days. Can't wait to pop it in.

Got mine in yesterday. When I removed the stock stop, I think the peg broke off...oh well. At first when you plug in the new clutch stop it doesn't feel secure, but pressing the clutch firmly once to seat it in as someone in this thread said definitely makes it tight.
Huge difference in clutch feel right from pulling out of my garage. Something to get used to, for the better.

Well, I went ahead and took a look at the stock "stop".
From the pictures posted I was shocked to find that the OEM stop is like the size of a dime. I thought it was bigger and a bit thicker. It ain't. So, while in there I decided to try and make something from parts I had laying around, especially the near 1" thick rubber stopper I used in my older stop design. I like to tinker, and add frustration to my day. So, I took a long zip tie and threaded it through the OEM stop and through the rubber stopped I had. I threaded the zip tie through the hole and then zipped it all together. It's very solid. One problem though, I shouldn't have used the OEM stop along with my rubber stop, cause it's at the limit of reduction. Pressing on the clutch pedal lightly, but all the way in, the engine won't start. I have to push just a touch harder to compress the stop a touch and it starts just fine. Overall, the reduction works great. Clean disengagement, quick shifts, very little pedal travel, and it bites right off the floor. I just need to go back down there and take the OEM piece out to give me that 1/8" back so that I can have an easier start without having to push harder. If anyone is thinking of doing this mod, get the piece that's for sale. It will save you the time and trouble of threading a zip tie through a rubber stop with only one hand, but it can be done. $14 is worth it, and it looks like the guy maximized travel reduction while allowing for easy start. At this point, I'll just use what I have cause it works the same. Conclusion: Get a stop! It makes shifting quicker and more fun! |

Got Pickyeater's ebay stop today. Installed in 5 min.
LOVE IT! what a nice upgrade. Changes so much for so little $$. I was worried from some posts of having to press hard to start the car - this was not the case. Hit a bunch of traffic on the way home, found just a little more stress on my knee - i think because it does not extend as far when I'm pressing the clutch all the way in. I could probably eleviate this by moving my seat back - but i haven't tried this yet. Best part about this $14 mod? Completely reversible in 5 min. Seriously you can't afford not to try this mod.

That was the main reason why I made a clutch stop on the first place, better seat/driving position. I like being able to sit farther back. Before I couldn't due to the long travel of the pedal. I have short legs compared to my overall height at 6'-1", so the stop is great for me. |

Another testimonial for this product: I installed it in the driveway of my parents house (thats where the part was shipped) I installed it after having lunch with mom, so I told her - Come outside and check out this mod. I let her drive the car around the driveway without it, then modded - and then let her test again. Her Exact words:
"I love this. Can you get me one of these for mine?" - (she means her manual e36 vert)
