Since the M1 mule seems to have borrowed most of the M3 rear suspension, I'd guess that it also has lots of the front suspension bits, and for testing purposes, it was probably easier to just the M3 calipers. That just means it has sticky tires, from various Subie forums and from track events, I've observed numerous issues with the STI four pot Brembos, just as 135i six pot calipers seem to have issues in track usage.

A single emergency stop does very little to actually show braking ability, it has a lot more to do with how sticky the tires are.
