Thanks!
Do the chrome surrounds with black slats. Classic BMW.

I don't think there's anyway it could make things worse, that's some backwards thinking right there. That would also mean that when the car rolled off the line the transmission was worse than it is now, it apparently ages like a fine wine according to that dealer?

If you get your service at a dealer or at a local indy, I think the most important part will be to make sure they reset all the adaptations.

I got to pay for a new wheel and tire today! I can't believe there was a trailer hitch in the middle of Highway 121 in Grapevine. Hitting that at 65 miles an hour does not do a wheel good.

Eww.

If it makes you feel any better. I've run over 3 ladders in my 1er in Charleston.

Yeah, I wish I'd done CF now...no need to try painting it, then failing, then wrapping it ( Matticus91 ) and it peeling 3 months later. Ugh...

Looks great! Enjoy the extra headroom

the litter in the roadways around the state is pretty nasty. It's like constantly dodging landmines these days.

I have not found dealerships to be a good place for anything truthful or beneficial. Many of the M3/M4 folks have been doing the fluid change at 50k, and it's only helpful.

at 50k, it may be a bit pre-cautious, but seeing my fluid and filters at 100k, it looked well over due. I think I'll do it again at 150k.

Doing it is really pretty easy to DIY, Besides having a good fresh fluid, cleaning the magnets of all the accumulated particles is always a great thing to get that abrasive solution out.

Retrofit a muffler from a Scatpack 392 Charger where my stock muffler sat... all by myself!

My roommate did a muffler delete once he got his car and just gave me the mufflers. I gave one to a friend and used one for my car. It's a small straight-through muffler with small perforations so I figured it would quiet the car down but still allow for some sportiness with the AA headers. I was right! It killed all the highway drone I had, thank goodness.

Fairly easy to fit and weld myself (MIG). Definitely not pretty and will be redone soon (the tips are centered!), but fun to get my hands on it. Need to utilize a band saw and mandrel pipe bender for sure.

And remember, a grinder and paint makes me the welder I aint.

That looks sweet. What does that save...like 30lbs?

Also any more ideas on a rear seat delete?

I'm itching for a little more power. I know the Vette has all I need, but the "1" is so fun to drive and rev the sh!t out of. Since I'm maxed out on the mods....weight reduction is my only option. I'm pretty much the only one who rides in the car anyway and don't need a rear seat.

Seriously looking at maybe an LSD as well.

This topic has been discussed on the internet to death. Ultimately everyone has come to the consensus that the fluid should be changed every 100k mikes at the latest per BMW. ZF and many others suggest every 50-75k miles. Mike Miller from the Roundel Magazine has a great document for service intervals. The earlier you change the fluid, the better. No harm can be done. In fact, you're being precautious and helping your car last longer. Do the fluid change. You'll be happy you did.

Supposedly 30-40 lbs. I'm also removing the sunroof drains since I'm doing body work too. Planning to weigh everything that came off the car. Not much but every pound counts.

Not doing a rear seat delete. Will do recaros in a year or so. Thinking about ripping out all the insulation.

More powah? I seem to remember a SC kit for the N52.

Yeah....everything I have researched about that seems to be a fail though. If it was something that hit slightly over 300 to the wheels and reliable..I would probably do it. Biggest issue with this car is the lack of TQ. I don't think the SC kit shined in that aspect at all.

Don't get me wrong, I love the little car. Haven't dyno'd it yet...but from others I have seen with the same mods as mine were maybe 280hp/230tq at the crank. The gear change in the rear diff made more of a SOTP difference than anything!

I love my sport seats. And the Apex wheels shaved a bit of weight. I figured a rear seat delete would probably be where I headed next.

My biggest issue...I can't leave stuff alone!!!

Gearing is huge and overlooked by most, including myself initially.

Yeah Apex wheels help. Allowed me to upsize to 275 square and still lose around a pound or two per corner. Rear seat delete is good for ~50 lbs I think, but I haven't come up with a good way to install a dog bed and my daughter's car seat back there without the seat. So I'm stuck.

Also removed the ears from my front Brembos. They were .75 lbs each, or 3lbs total.

Do you happen to have a picture of the calipers with the ears off?

I don't get the lack of love for sunroofs.
I get the motivation for not ordering a sunroof when spec-ing a new car. Saves money and weight.
But if he already paid for one, what does deleting it do besides forcing him to spend even more money to properly cover the hole (probably repaint the entire roof)?
No, you won't notice the weight savings. Not even on the track, unless you're able to drive 10/10 at every turn.

Why?
  • because it rattles
  • because it's hard to recover the panel
  • because it's hot
  • because it's heavy
  • because .. do I need more?

Don't do it if you don't want to. I've had several folks who did the change say they noticed the car felt a little less top heavy. The only worse place to hang 40lbs is in front of the front bumper.
