Car dies immediately on startup after 3 stage IM install runs fine with MAF unplugged
I just installed a 3 stage intake and after putting everything back together when starting
a the car it idles very eraticaly for a few seconds and then dies. I discovered that if I unplug the MAF sensor it idles fine. I had no issues at all before the install. I tried cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner and double checked all the connections and everything seems fine but it still dies with the MAF plugged in. The 3 stage intake was used so not sure if there could be something wrong with it but it looked fine and I cleaned it thoroughly before installing. With the MAF unplugged I am getting a 2F08 (inlet air temperature sensor, signal) code. Any ideas what the problem could be? I somehow don't think it's actually the MAF but I'm going to try to find and swap in another one to see if the issue persists. Last edited by claasmi; 07-22-2017 at 04:59 PM.. |

The sensor on the right side of this picture should be the air intake temp sensor. Check that.

From what I understand the intake air temp sensor is built into the MAF, so the code I am getting makes perfect sense since I have the MAF disconnected. |

Well I'm an idiot. Took everything apart again to double check and there was a hose (connecting to intake behind throttle body) that I forgot to plug in. Runs fine now.

I'm on the lookout for a 3 stage manifold, any pointers on where to pick up or good sources? What's the market like right now for the used ones? |

Yes I have the AA tune. I immediately noticed the additional power and better throttle response on the first drive after putting the tune on, but also noticed that the pops and burbles from my performance exhaust have been greatly reduced and there seems to be a lag when letting off the gas. I didn't reset adaptations though (the buttons were grayed out in the Simon software that came with the tune). I'm going to try resetting adaptations (I have another OBDII tool that can do this) and driving it for a little while before raising this with AA.
I bought the intake used on car-parts.com. It came off a 2011 328i with N51 engine. It was about $400 CAD shipped. |

I only just recently started reading about how the BPC tune is supposed to be slightly better than AA, but I had already bought the tune from AA at that point and got it on sale as a package deal with their headers.

You got a decent price on the manifold...hard to find them. I'll admit I haven't been looking as hard as I should |
