warranty question

Another question for you guys...

What can you do to your car and not have your warranty voided? For example, if I install something as simple as an aftermarket air intake, will my warranty affected? I see that some of you guys have done have put alot of performance parts on your cars. Have any of you had any trouble with your warranty? Thanks.

if a problem occurs to your car that has anything to do with any additional modifications that you have added not under warrenty, your warrenty will then be voided, if you add an air intake, and something goes wrong with your exhaust system that is unrelated, you will still be covered by warranty. Best thing to do is bring your car back to stock before going to a dealership for service.

italiantank26 got it right, but I just wanted to ssay that it's the way people say it that makes it confusing. Your warranty is never "voided". If a dealership thinks an aftermarket part was the cause of an issue, they reserve the right to not fix that issue under warranty.

It can go a lot further than aftermarket parts. Some dealerships refuse to fix problems under warranty if you never got your oil changes and major services done at the dealership. It's happened to me and a friend between toyota and subaru. Because we did our own oil changes, they had no record that we took care of the cars. Not sure if that's legal or not.

What the law, and all the armchair lawyers around here, say does not really matter in real life.

If your dealership contacts your regional BMW NA rep because they see something non-OEM in your car, and if that BMW NA rep blacklists your car, you will not be getting anything done under warranty without a big argument, ever.

Sure, you can sue. I would not expect to see a profitable case in suing BMW on a MMWA claim, but who knows? Life is full of surprises.

PS: this topic has been beat to death on these forums. Try a search.
