18" or not 18"?

I'm getting my 128i mid June. It comes with M sport pack, so it will be a 17" m rim. If I were to pick up a set of 18" rims and tires, I will be using the 17" for winters. That will meaning asking the dealer to put on winters instead of the all season run flat (or are the summer run flats??). Not even sure if they are willing. And the 18s with summers won't be cheap. I will prob look into second hand authentic BMW rims. Money well spent?

Bought used stock 18' 135i rims in mint condition for $700, then new Yoko S drives, sized 215/245, for $920 (or $840 with rebate) all in, installed from Tires23. Sold stock 17' set for a $1000, and bought 16' alloys with dunlop RFT winters.

Couldn't be happier.

Supraking has a set of style 263s 18" for sale if you're looking for some awesome looking wheels. Personally I think these wheels are very unique compared to the more common 264s and even 261s. You can also get some nice VMR wheels but that'll cost you a bit more.

But yeah you definitely want 18s. I'm pretty certain the dealer won't replace the stock tires and if they do you'll end up paying for the swap anyway so you may as well sell them yourself. The 17" wheels are a square setup and the size is quite common so it shouldn't be too hard to find a buyer.

if i were you i'd try to negotiate with the dealer and get a set of 18"s instead of 17"s at delivery. try to offset the higher cost of 18" by telling them that you'd leave them the 17"s.

besides If you're going to mount winters anyways, id opt for 16"s. less expensive and better in heavy snow and slush...

^^ What he said.

My 263's have the original tires mounted, they had under 10,000 km on them (non-aggressive mostly due to gentle break in period). I'm willing to sell the wheels AND tires if you want, I was looking for $800 for the wheels but will take $1500 for wheels/tires (the runflats are $350 apiece new, I'm ok selling for half that).

263's are rarely seen as they don't sell them anymore . PM me if interested!

Thanks guys. Not sure how that would work cuz my car is a lease. It may get complicated if I sell the 17.

Why not go straight to 19" for summers?

I've been pondering doing this on my 128i too. Any speedometer variation?

What 16" alloys did you end up with? Offset?

Thanks!

I talked to my dealer -- The dealer will not trade the stock 17" tires for winters. Do any of you know what the market values of these tires are? Will any tire shops take them as trade-ins?

I ended up buying the 135 rim on Kijiji as posted by cricri (thanks). Not as good of a deal as Pita. I paid $650 for them, but they had some minor scratches. I am going to do some DIY repair this long weekend. Really beautiful rim though.

sweet

Please post a pic of the car with the wheels on when you have a chance. It'll be interesting to see an M-Sport with this setup.

Lol. Car won't be here until end of June. But for sure. I'll give my new baby a photoshoot with my canon 7D.
