JB4 Install Killed Car Help Me Please!
I have been running MHD Stg 2+ but wanted to try JB4. I just finished installing my JB4 with MHD BEF. When I started the car it ran really loud for a few seconds then tapered off to normal idle. About 15-20 seconds after it started idling normal, the engine cut out and my JB4 started buzzing pretty loudly. I disconnected the battery as soon as possible but have no idea what to do now. I then disconnected the JB4 box only and the car starts so it is something to do with the JB4. When I plugged it back in and tried again it started and puttered out in about 3 seconds. I've searched but I can't find anyone having the same issues. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you make sure everything is connected properly? Make sure you look at the arrows of the connectors. You can contact BMS, they would probably be more helpful.

I believe all the connectors are in correctly. When the car was running I grabbed the USB cord from the JB4 and that's when everything went haywire. I don't understand why it would run smoothly once then shut off and not start. I haven't touched any of the connectors, just the box.

I think you can plug in the JB4 with the ingition on (but car not started). Maybe try to update the firmware of the JB4 to the newest, reset settings. If that doesn't help, then there is a forum site which is pretty much the one stop shop for JB4 which is called N54 Technology, but technology is shortened to Tech. The site is banned here I think so I can't actually type it out correctly.

As others have said, verify connections, update firmware with car in accessory mode (engine off), then try again. If not, contact BMS directly. You can send your hardware to them and they will test it for you.

Big question is if the JB4 is new or not. Also what model. G4/G5/ISO. Assuming G5 ISO since you mentioned BEF.
Other thing is recommend since you said it was buzzing, open the box and check the JB4 board. look for physical chip and connector/resister damage.

Thank you for the responses. As of now I have removed the JB4 and am running MHD Map 0 (feels so slow). Unfortunately I did have to add a ground wire to the TMAP. Is it possible that the TMAP shorting would cause the JB4 to not allow the car to start?
I don't have tons of money to be throwing at the car (why I got a N55 and not N54). But my end goal is to be able to run 93 and E85 when available. But I don't want to reinstall the JB4 if it's going to cause issues again and at the same time I don't want to have to drop $100 on MHD Stg2+ and E30 (car was purchased FBO with Stg2+ installed), if the JB4 will work issue free. I have attached pictures of the board. I do not believe there is any damage on it. |

If you bought this new, I'd call BMS. They're super helpful. If not, go post on n54tech forums. There's a N55 section.
Otherwise, board looks fine to me.

JB4 adds several additional points of failure to the car and spams the canbus while hijacking...2 sensors. On the other hand a MHD (or any other good flash tune) modifies over 100 factory maps in the car's engine computer that ALREADY exists and ALREADY has full authority over the engine. Why would you add something to control the engine, when the car has something that can do this with just a reprogramming? Beats me.
Anyone who uses a JB4 in place of a regular flash tune is misinformed and victim of an inferior product. JB4 could be useful for exotic things like auxiliary fueling, nitrous, water meth, but are you running any of those? Even in that case, you would COMBINE the flash tune with the JB4 for best performance and safety. In conclusion, ditch the JB4 as fast as possible and get MHD. |

I didn't see any response regarding this so... Did you try communicating to the JB4 while the car is in accessory mode? Try to update the board possibly? Or try to reset it. If you bought it second hand it could be it had settings very specific to the previous owner's car.

The issue is all fixed now! I guess the shorted TMAP sensor was preventing it from starting. Even though I asked BMS this multiple times over chat and they did not have an answer. I also updated the board as recommended.
My goodness JB4 + BEF is amazing! I don't understand why there are so many haters. Power feels amazing and the added features are awesome. I can't wait to get some E85 next week. |
