Most dealers will not do this as it takes car off site so insurance issues, and most mobile inspectors are cosmetic only. I (think ) I know something about cars as well. That said I am just waffling on this decision.

That is simply wrong. When I was in the market for a used car, I shopped a couple of dealers and both allowed me to have the car I was interested in to be driven to my mechanic for a PPI. One allowed me to drive the car almost 30 miles one way to my mechanic to have it done. Any dealer that will not allow me to take a car for a PPI, I will not do business with.

I agree. I would never buy a used car without a PPI & would not buy from a dealer who wouldn't let me have it done. Unless the used car was still under warranty..,

So I asked the dealer (Phil Smith Acura) about a PPI and they flat out said no. They did send me this for what its worth:

That said, I am in no hurry, and I may just keep my existing BMW.

Here's an alternative which will create a bit of a hassle for you if the car ends up being a dud. You can see what their return policy is. The dealer I ultimately bought the used car from had a 5 days under 100 miles driven 100% money back guarantee. I even had them write it out on the bill of sale to ensure I was covered. If they have something like this, you can buy the car then have it inspected afterwards. If it doesn't measure up, return the car and get your money back.

I'd pass. If a dealer says you can't have a Pre Purchase Inspection they are hiding something. Personally I'd say thanks but I'm not willing to risk my purchase without an inspection and walk away. Another 135i will come up.
