European 1M Auto Dip/Tilt mirror

Hey All,

I have been speaking to a german bmw parts and he told me that none of the 1M (in europe) has that automatic tilt/dip feature when you put your car in reverse?

is this true? as I would find this very odd and stupid!

Although I have not had my hands on a European 1M, this can be labelled as BS as the subject feature as been commercially advertised (fi in German pricelist) as being part of option 313 (folding mirrors) and option 430 (dimming inside and outside mirrors, this basically includes option 313 )

As eeghie said, that's complete BS...I have that option on my 1M which is Euro Spec and I can tell you it actually does exist and it does work..

Cheers

I thought so as that would be bloody stupid, but the guy was quite adamant, maybe he didn't quite understand what I meant as he is German.

Yeah man, why do you ask wrong questions?

By the way, you can easily spot a bs-ing technician/service guy/dealer just by the level of how adamant/persistent he is in his arguements. They are very much correlated.

Isn't this a code-able option?

Also looking for detailed confirmation on people with coding expertise on this. Once the car's module that generates the 'dip mirror' command in reverse is isolated, it might be as simple as coding only.

On coding forum I have seen reports of successful dipping activations after retrofitting the mirror LIN bus connections and respective mirror modules.

Maybe the German contact person meant the following about the "automatic curb monitor" ("Bordsteinautomatik"):

- Your 1M is not equipped with option 430 (automatic dimming interior and exterior mirrors - automatically including option 313):
  • no electric folding exterior mirrors;
  • no automatic tilting of any exterior mirror.
- Your 1M is equipped with option 430:
  • electric folding exterior mirrors;
  • no automatic tilting of the driver's exterior mirror;
  • no automatic tilting of the passenger's exterior mirror if you did not activate the automatic tilting button (next to the side window controls);
  • automatic tilting of the passenger exterior mirror if you activated the automatic tilting button (though less dipping when compared to my former M3s - solution: keep the passenger exterior mirror already a bit tilted as standard position, to allow deeper dipping): see http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=637832.
If the German contact person insists that no European 1M has an "automatic curb monitor", then challenge him for a bet: it'll be a 100% win for you.

Option 430:
"Innen- und Außenspiegel automatisch abblendend Elektrochromspiegel innen und außen, Außenspiegel beheizt und elektrisch anklappbar, Spiegel-Memory über Personal Profile, Bordsteinautomatik (Beifahrerseite beim Einlegen des Rückwärtsgangs), Scheibenwaschdüsen beheizt"

+1

The real challenge starts after spotting all this BS: to not antagonize, and gently bring them to the light, while making them feel like they were in control the whole way.

Good luck with your follow up call Raihax.

PS saying that you read some stuff on the internet made the staff I dealt with only more sure of their BS ...

retrofit electric mirror

to anyone who can help me!!!

My 1M did not come with the electric folding mirrors, which also means I dont have the tilting function. Here's my question, can I retrofit the electric component to the mirrors so I can have the electric folding mirrors and the tilting function when I put the car in reverse?

Thanks in advance for all the help! It'd be great to be able to retrofit this onto my car.
