Car Died after VRSF Chargepipe Install

Hey fellow 1ers, I had a situation yesterday after I installed the VRSF chargepipe.

I purchased a CP 2013 135i DCT with 52k miles, and I've had it for about a month with no issues at all. I plan on making this my tuner car, and my very first mod was the VRSF charge pipe.

Installation was painless, and I bought the new O-ring and C-clip just to be safe. I removed the negative before starting since I knew Id be unplugging the TMAP. During the installation I had shut my trunk, and I had to use my other car to provide power to the front +/frame post to unlock the trunk and hook back up after installation (Don't know if this is useful information for my problem.)

After the install, I reset my clock, no engine lights or warnings of any kind. After idling for ~10 min, I went for a normal drive to see how she was running. About a mile down the road, the dash display switched and showed N and I lost all power steering control, and gas response. Absolutely no power to the gas at all, and I had to coast to the side of the road.

At that point there were still no CEL or warning lights what-so-over, but I was stuck on the side of the road. I attempted to put it into D several times, but would not leave N. I turned off the car. I attempted to restart the car, and it would be in a half start mode where it sounded like it was on, but a constant whining sounding like the starter trying to get the car started. I could not get the car to start fully, or even get it into N to push it out of the road. I checked fitment of the chargepipe, TMAP sensor O-ring, C-clamp, and chargepipe O-ring - All which were fitted properly and undamaged.

Over the course of 45 minutes I attempted to turn on the car several times, but still with the same result. I called BMW roadside and they were in route to pick me up, when on the last attempt, she started up normal like nothing had ever happened.

I have driven ~50 miles since the event, with no issues what-so-ever including pushing her hard Sport mode and with Manual mode. I have not had any problems since the event.

I wondering what actually happened, what the problem could of been, and if I can expect something like this to happen again?

I did quite a bit of searching before my post, and most say its a leak, which after thinking about it, since I installed a new chargepipe O-ring I didn't lube it at all, but possibly some blow-by lubed it up and sealed it better at the throttle body connection.

Sounds like the battery cable is loose.

I appreciate your input and response, but I did tighten down the negative terminal after the install. Also during this entire ordeal, my hazards and idrive were still functional.

check your ground cable near the engine mount. They're know to deteriorate and cause electrical issues.

Definitely worth checking the contacts to ensure there's no resistance in between.

Garage List
A chargepipe isn't capable of causing any of the issues mentioned above. I agree with everyone else, try checking for any loose connections at the battery.

VRSF charge pipe is very close to the starter...and is made of metal which is a conductor.

Check to make sure none of these wires come in contact with the charge pipe when its moving, may want to rock the charge pipe and see if it touches anything electrical under the hood

Second 2 options.

Charge pipe came in contact with the alternator. Zap zap.

Connector to the TMap sensor came loose.
