Best MHD android device - recommendations?

Im wondering what everyone recommends as the best android device for MHD tuning on an N54. This might sound silly, but Im asking because in the past Ive had shitty luck with android devices.

Im an iphone user and I dont know much about androids. But recently I had a samsung S3 that i bought used on craigslist to use exclusively for MHD. I got the right cords from bimmer software and everything. I used both their OBD2 cord and their OTG cable that is "tested" to work with MHD.

Problem was that the Samsung S3 I had was a piece of shit. Every Time I plugged in the USB OTG cord it would flicker between connected and disconnected. I tried multiple OTG cords with the same result. The port was broken on the phone.

Now Im looking for a new android device to use exclusively for MHD. I don't want a tablet because I will be mounting the device left of the steering wheel for running MHD monitor module gauges.

What is the best android device to use with MHD under 150$ that connects well every time as doesn't have any issues? Also, ideally id like to get a device with a large 5.5-6 inch screen. So far I think I like the nexus 6 but Im wondering if there is any android in particular that stands out as good performance for MHD. Meaning if it connects every time without issues and is reliable. thanks guys

I'm using Nexus 5 as MHD Flasher for my 135i. Nexus phone is always the best android devices(In terms of software) you can get from the market. Go grab a used nexus 5 for $100 from eBay or somewhere else.

this is what im looking for. Im sure samsungs are pretty decent but the s3 left a bad taste in my mouth. I think ill try a nexus 6 just because the bigger screen will be nicer for reading gauges, but nexus 5 would be my next option. thanks

I'm using a kindle fire I picked up for $50 at Best Buy. Flashed it to run regular android and have had no issues!

I actually took some measurements and the specific spot I want to mount my device is very small. I ordered a nexus 5 so its not the big screen I was looking for but it should fit great. Im going to mount it left of the steering wheel, in between the A pillar and instrument cluster Hood bubble thing. Its going down low so it doesn't block any visibility out my windshield too. Im also planning on getting OBD2 relocation cord and removing some panels to wire my cords behind then buttoning it up for a clean looking install!

Going to use this mount: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Going to use this obd2 cable:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=A9RRFZDGAXG22

The goal will be to have my device mounted in a fashion where no OBD2 wires will be visible, and hopefully the "OBD2 extension cable" is low profile enough to where the plastic OBD2 cover can clip back on with the cable attached. Hopefully I can also find somewhere to tuck my bimmer software OBD2 cable and USB cable so they are behind panels and not visible. Then just poke the OTG cable out the top of the AC vent and plug it into the Nexus 5. I will make a youtube video and post back here if anyone is interested, hopefully it turns out how I want!

Had great luck the past couple years with my samsung tab 3 8.0. That said, I started looking for something smaller in the 5-6" range to keep in the car recently.

Yes! i actually just finished this and am making a video on it soon. It looks super clean but the only problem is charging, ive learned that the only way an android device can be charged and run USB OTG at the same time is if it has two micro usb ports, 1 for each task. So I just have to take my nexus 5 out of the car everyday and charge it, but I was hoping that it could be permanently mounted

I'm not sure that's correct. There are a few folks using Nexus 7 tablets retrofitted into the CIC which are permanently installed.

This is done with a Y-Cable and a custom ROM unfortunately. Doesn't apply to all Android devices nor OS. I unfortunately use a Galaxy Tab 4 that doesn't support the settings to allow this.

The best options I've seen are Xperia devices with dedicated charging ports + micro USB or devices with removable batteries to install wireless/Qi charging.

I've never run into worse tablets/phones than those made by sony. Absolute garbage. Really expensive too.

hmmmm, I haven't done too much research into it, but it would be wonderful if a charging solution was possible.

also it would be wonderful if MHD came out with bluetooth!

Which is why I'm still on my Samsung devices

Bluetooth would be a HUGE improvement. I don't care about writing, at least give us the option to read via BT. Honestly, my tablet spends more time collecting dust than installed in the car anymore due to the hassle of constantly removing it to charge. The standby battery life on it is definitely not up to par.
