3 weeks in and... major wheel damage! AAARRRGGH!!!!
Well, gosh, I just love Baltimore sometimes. Hit a REALLY evil pothole, heard a REALLY loud bang, and was like... dang, just totally messed up my wheel. No sensor went off, though.
Took a look at it and... yep, MAJOR dent in the rim and OH LOOK, it actually CRACKED the rim something awful! Dealer couldn't believe the tire was holding air. Kind of stinks it is, as my optional tire coverage might not cover the damage, if the tire was OK, even if the rim was messed to hell. If the tire had taken damage,t he coverage would definitely cover both the tire and rim. I'll try to be hopeful, I think the dealership will try to get it covered. They were able to hook me up with a very nice 2009 328i as a loaner, on zero notice. I think they like me, when I had called in earlier in the day, I was told none were available, but I get there and one pops out of nowhere, after I went in and said hi to my CA and the sales manager, who were all VERY appreciative of the nice things I've said about them in my reviews. I must be on the "good customer" list! Once again, BMW of Annapolis comes through for me -- I do really like this dealership. *sigh* I do hope it gets covered, won't be cheap if it's not. I'm also having them check the suspension and alignment, just in case. Sorry, no pics... But the dent came out almost a centimeter at the worst part, was probably 5 or 6 cm long, and for almost the whole length of it on the outer rim, it was CRACKED along the edge of the rim. Ouch! I'm just thankful I was able to drive with it, and nobody got hurt! |

Wow. Bummer. I've driven into DC three times now and I have been uber diligent about avoiding potholes. Sometimes they are unavoidable though. Hope you get it covered under the warranty. If not, do what luv135i said. Look for a cheaper used one.

that sucks!
however, according to the Tire and Wheel Warranty they are required to replace the flat tire or damaged rim due to street damage

I know the pain. 2 weeks in something hit my cars bumper on the freeway and had to be replaces then 3 weeks later a big piece of plastic smaked my car on the freeway. You just cant keep anything nice anymore.

You lasted longer than me if its any consolation. I bent 2 rims on a pothole that I didn't even see driving into DC when my car was a couple days old. My service guy got it fixed and back up and running the same day, still feels like new so its all good

I bet if our cars didn't come with run craps the tire would've absorbed the hit and the rim made it ok.....

Update -- The company that does the optional tire/wheel coverage is covering the entire thing, however I am paying out of pocket about $165 for a full alignment, which I opted for. I am pretty psyched, and will be picking up my car in the morning (it was actually finished today, event hough they just got the replacement parts this morning).
BMW of Annapolis FTW, once again! Baltimore potholes FTL, and yes, I will be EVEN MORE CAREFUL from now on driving around than I already am! And if you just so happen to be in Baltimore, driving Westbound on Northern Parkway, WATCH OUT for the REALLY nasty one, I think in the right lane, within half mile of Charles St. (I can't remember if it was East or West of Charles, but around there). |
