Oil service light still on?

Hey there, changed my oil and filter at 50k but the service warning has not gone away after i did the reset. It's reset the mileage down to 600. I figured if I gave it a little bit of time to let the oil run around it would fix itself, but after 200 miles it's still there but now the warning is at 800. Ik the oil change is done, it's just an annoyance. Any help?

Unfortunately I have done this several times and it resets it back to a 600 mile service needed not to 0. Would you recommend using a scan tool to wipe it?

The car does not know the oil was changed. You need to reset the service needed indicator once you change the oil. Maybe it is a brake fluid change warning?

hmmm, that's strange. The procedure from your instrument cluster should have worked. A scan tool will probably fix it, the only issue is you will spend good amount of money for them. I have the harbor freight zurich zr13 model that i got used online for around $100 (that's will 15% discount code ebay had around Christmas) but it retails around $200. To me that's the best "bang for the buck" scanner (or you can go with the zr11 which is around $150 i think and it does everything zr13 does minus the airbag reset, which you probably don't need anyways.

I use an app for phones or tablets called Torque but I also have a inexpensive scan tool, I think it may be HF. But the service reminders do not show up in either.

The reset process for the service reminders is goofy but I have had success several times on the oil change one. I have had a total lack of success with the stupid Brake reminder but I am hoping a change in the wear sensors changes that for me.

Someday when I find the time, and my cable, I intend to use NCSExpert to eliminate these reminders if possible. But Dack says you can't eliminate the Brake one. He is generally right. But maybe I can eliminate the oil change reminder. I do it at 5,000 mile intervals (mainly because it's easy to remember) and don't need the cars help remembering.

It could be a broken wear sensor. The sensor works by wearing down a connection when the brakes reach a certain wear level which breaks continuity in the wire. If the wire just breaks somewhere else (happened to me) then the reminder immediately gets tripped again when you reset it. I ended up soldering the broken wire ends and ziptieing the loose end to a control arm so it will never trip again.

I didn't solder them together but I twisted them together, taped it and zip tied it but that did not allow me to reset the Brake light. I've seen some discussion about the resistance of new versus old brake sensors so I plan to measure mine, both new and old, when I do the replacement.

The frustrating thing about all this is I have plenty of pad material left. I don't need to replace the pads. But the car says I do and will not quit saying that. It may be the sensors but I tried changing that without success. It doesn't help that the connection for the back sensor is inside the lining of the wheel well.

I have pads and a couple new sensors at home waiting for me to find time and decide to change them. I know the pads are fine so I am not dropping everything to get it done.
