Ya, I'd go the overly conservative/anal approach. Ain't worth the risk. Or find the loooong way around to avoid all those stretches, even if extra 30 miles. =) Totally worth it. You'll find yourself looking for excuses to go drive somewhere and taking long ways to where you're going once you get it.

But yep, Le Mans on black with stitching, m-sport, dct, tech, prem, heated seats and HK surround. Crazy thinking I only randomly thought about a new car 9 days ago and it's going to be a reality by this weekend *fingers crossed* Quote:

PPK Stickers?
Quote:
"Stickers had been applied in the past, but not on every car due to variation in execution between techs. The stickers are not technically part of the 'is' specification, installation techs find them in the kit, however they aren't mentioned anywhere on the spec, but they look like a placard that should be installed somewhere... so some techs were applying them to engine compartments, doorjambs, etc." Seems like a reasonable explanation, although I would be happy to obtain and apply a PPK sticker if they were available (or at least add it to the documentation that came with my car).

They are available. I had my dealer order them (there are apparently two variations). Will pick them up in 3k miles.

This may help as your service advisor apparently can get at least the white stickers...and in 6 languages. Scroll down to see pics.

I was about to post a similar picture. But whoever installed your sticker did it cleaner than mine. Mine isn't nicely placed next to the other sticker(s)...whoever did mine just slapped it on randomly.

Yep, see the thread Greg posted. I just told my SA I wanted them. He looked up the part and ordered everything that was available. Now my car is properly labeled in 4 languages, so at least I have that going for me. Means I can travel abroad and be pretty certain my spark plugs will get changed.

I inquired about the break-in service cost, i.e., engine, transmission and differential oil changes. The engine oil is reasonable and I think it must be changed. As for the manual transmission and differential oil changes, they are $270 and $180, and the service advisors do not recommend changing them. I am reluctant to change the transmission and differential oils due to cost. Any one with 6MT did this oil change? |

I did it and I would love to hear the service advisors' technical explanation on why not to do it. It would probably be very entertaining.
$ wise, I get it. But it's fluid that protects metal on metal friction. I go with mike miller and his old school ways on this one.

There are merits to both weights. I suppose it is BMW's prerogative to stand behind their maintenance recommendations... I'm going have my oil replaced at 1200 miles anyway. Perhaps the real question is why all new cars don't get the M-series treatment from BMW... it probably comes down to cost of the 1200-mile oil change vs. financial exposure to engine failure under warranty. They have the numbers to make the call...

Ms stick with the 10w 60 so they were even lying or stupid. Unless the 1m is different, but I doubt it is. Also doesn't explain why not to do tranny and diff.
The answer to why all BMWs don't get the same break in service is because once BMW started paying for service the intervals miraculously got extended.

nothing can convince me that the engine oil does not need to be changed after the break-in period and that it is OK to let that oil circulate in the engine with all the metal from the manufacturing for 15k miles.
As for the differential, I think it is an over kill with the small open diff that the 135is has. BMW and private technicians agreed with on these issues. However, for the manual gearbox, both BMW technicians and private BMW service centers strongly recommended changing the oil at 50,000 which is in agreement with Mike Miller. But, when it comes to the gearbox oil change at break-in, the technicians recommended it but did not see any "harm" in waiting until 50k or so. It is understood that changing the oil will make shifting smoother and extend the life of the gearbox, but how much effect there is if the oil is not changed at break-in is the question. Currently, at 1250 miles, shifting 3rd and sometimes 4th is not that smooth. I'm not sure if changing the oil will remedy this or it is a characteristic of the 135is gearbox. |

"IS" coupe build count is up to 598 through 9/16 - it may yet challenge the 1M total build if they don't switch over to the F22 builds soon
