Guys be nice. It's just a car and exhaust system that is being questioned. Nothing personal

OP, thanks for posting pictures of the stock muffler opened up. I wonder if the removal of the packing material will work for a stock muffler mod and how it would sound.

Tried that mod. Sounded crap. Noiser at idled and quieter above 2.5k rpm. Wound up dumping the modded OEM mufller and fitting the Eisenmann race.

Certainly, as in the 135i, only one set of tips is necessary as the gases flow from only one source, but it is clear from this picture that all four tips are used.
Yes, the gas flows to all 4 outlets. But it is so limited that I was very disappointed. Thus I used word "Fake"
See another picture when I cut the pipe. the 4 holes are of the size of a straw...
For those people who gets all 4 dirty, if you tell me it was from the first day you get the car, I would highly suspect that now China has a higher standard for emission...

This is exactly the case here.

You did a good job for correcting me. The experiment was half done.
I cut the pipe today to find out you are right.
We already know that you are not an idiot, but you do not have to say the above line to show you are a jerk.

Do you know, (if you do please share) the mechanism with which the 2 additional pipes open up, once the engine is warmed up?

To OP: I was actually a little disappointed about the 1M while reading your 'fake' judgement, please check twice next time you bring bad news; nevertheless big kudos for being inquisitive and sharing with us

Yeah that would have to take some good fabrications to get right. But if done properly, the results would be amazing I reckon

i only get 2 hole black too. i am checking the BMW China for country differences. Remember Ex-Vice president Gore said on his presentation China has higher emission standard. One thing i know for sure is that when i install the ETS 1M FMIC, the fan is different vs. NA. Becuase the FMIC bottom mount does not fit. So that might happens.

A bit off topic; this China having higher emission standarts is really a bit ironical, or a bit late isn't it? I mean, Beijing is very probably by far the most polluted (air) capital in the World and I suspect cars are the main reason in this case. After these examples, now I started believing that BMW might have been sending country specific 1Ms to China (or East Asia in general).

Yep... It's funny how everyone just jumped to conclusion...

OP, let us know what BMW China says about this

How would the muffler design or number of working exhaust tips affect emissions?

Maybe there are other changes to the exhaust system as well

Just the owners from China talking about only 2 tips working is suspicious enough.
