What are your last 7 characters of the VIN. There might be some option combination that would make it possible to identify South African cars.
VU28193
We got UR92 cars, same as Australia and UK.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think all South African cars come with Area-Code 2 DVD (S698A) and Data record without EOBD (S861A) and there is no other RHD country where these options are used.
If the above is true, then there were 110 South African 1M

You are correct, just checked my cars specification listing and it came with both Area-Code 2 DVD (S698A) and Data record without EOBD (S861A). If we only got 110, why is BMW SA telling us we got 120?

For the Belgian (unofficial) register (152 1M cars reported so far):

I don't have an answer for you. 110 is the number of RHD cars that were built with the Area Code 2 DVD and without EOBD logging.

Is there a service in South Africa where you can run VINs? For example in some countries you can run VINs for accidents(carfax) and/or you can check for insurance and/or emission testing? Services like these allow you to check if a car is in the country.

I know what has happened, 10 cars has gone to neighboring countries like Namibia and Botswana. BMW SA did exactly the same thing with the AC Schnitzer Z3 M Coupé. They shipped 10 to neighboring countries.

Here is a breakdown by country

UR91
China - 447
Germany - 1134
Gulf Version - 82
Korea - 228

Here are some guesstimates. It is mostly based in what language the instruction manual came. In some cases that doesn't mean the actual country since for example Portuguese is spoken in Portugal, Brazil and a bunch of other countries. Sometime the country can be guessed by the region code of the DVD. Portugal would get region code 2, Brazil region code 4. This is most likely very inaccurate.

Brazil - 63 (S889A - Operating instructions, Portuguese + S700A- Area-Code 4 for DVD)
Czech Republic - 20 (S8ALA - Owner‘s Manual/Service manual, Czech)
Denmark - 1 (S888A - Operating instructions, Danish)
Greece - 2 (S8AEA - Owner‘s handbook/Service booklet, greek)
Hungary - 4 (S8AUA - Owner‘s handbk/Service manual, Hungarian)
Italy - 144 (S855A - Language version Italian)
Netherlands - 188 (S886A - Operating instructions, Dutch)
Poland - 11 (S8ATA - Owner‘s handbook/service manual, Polish)
Romania - 3 (S8ARA - Owner‘s Manual/Service booklet, Romanian)
Russia - 77* (S8LRA - Country control, Russia)
Slovakia - 3 (S8AKA - Owner‘s Manual/Service manual, Slovakian)
Spain - 91 (S856A - Language version Spanish OR S883A - Operating instructions, Spanish AND S698A - Area-Code 2 for DVD)
Sweden - 139 (S885A - Operating instructions, Swedish)
Switzerland - 316 (S869A - Language version Switzerland)

French version Europe - 482 (S881A Operating instructions, French OR S854A Language version French AND S698A - Area-Code 2 for DVD)
French version Africa? - 5 (S881A Operating instructions, French OR S854A Language version French AND S701A - Area-Code 5 for DVD)

Mexico + Spanish speaking South America - 379 (S883A + Operating instructions, Spanish + S700A- Area-Code 4 for DVD)

* there were 81 cars built with an option S891A - Operating instructions, Russian. Most likely those 4 cars went to some former Soviet country, like Ukraine.

UR92
Australia - 350
England/Ireland - 452

UR93
US - 761
Canada - 222

Hope this helps. By the way

P.S. Does anyone know what the option "P949A - Sport Package LA" mean on a 1 M Coupe?
Hi!

You're actually totally right. Seems to be one of these 4x cars went to Republic of Moldova(see image below, photo made at BMW FEST 2016)

I remember this car (i think at 2013-2015), seen too frequently in center of our city.

Later(after 2016) it seems to be disappeared from our country, like sold or crashed(?). Unfortunately don't know concrete\real information.

Something from youtube with timestamps : 1) 6:15 2) 8:45 3) 10:06) -
