I have that article. Just another reason to like Mike Miller.

Terrific article.
Now I've gotta hunt down that magazine... Any idea what bookstores carry the magazine? Barnes & Noble?

It's always reassuring when one of the top 5 BMW authorities in the world agrees with your exact car choice.

Great article.
I am not bashing on 135's here at all, but it is unfortunate that HPFP and Turbos are failing at a seemingly higher than normal rate. I am happy with my 128.. and sounds like I am not in the minority. |

As I've said before, and this article echos, the 128i is the summary of everything BMW has learned to do well over the last 30 odd years, with none of the new junk that breaks.

Pretty much sums up why I didn't hesitate to pick up a 128 when I returned back to the US last month. Sold my S2000 before leaving and had a supercharged Miata before that, so over time I've learned that a nicely balanced car, at least for me, is the recipe for long term satisfaction. High HP, while fun, sometimes leaves you wanting the next best thing as cars get more powerful each year. I can always by a Corvette or a 911, but BMWs straight-6 might disappear so might as well spend some time enjoying it in a great chassis.
The article is spot on regarding the deals out there. Found my '11 with 6-speed, sport and convenience packages, leather, HIDs with under 11k miles for an absolute steal at the dealership. Manual + no sunroof is apparently a toxic combo to sell, but for me it was exactly what I was looking for. |

I found the exact same thing, except with M Sport and manual seats(which I wanted). Having a sunroof was a deal breaker for me.

But the lack of an oil dipstick, gas pedal by wire, and similar make me a bit nervous...

Throttle cables have been gone for 13-14 years, so that is fairly established at this point. I prefer the E36 pedal too, but current DSC is much better than ASC.

Nice. Yet another reason for me to be quite happy with my AW 128 purchase.

The Roundel is the magazine of the BMW Car Club of America. You get it if you are a BMWCCA member. (The Roundel has Mike Miller as a contributor every month for his car care information and it published his favorable article on the 128i)

BTW I think Mike is sometimes full of hot air (i know he does not read forums). First, he praises the benefits of the sport package or M package, then he states the materials used in the dampeners are of an inferior quality. How can he recommend the sport package?

Yeah, I noticed that as well... Maybe he doesn't proofread his own text?

Well, I went for the M-Sport package despite having no interest in the suspension aspect. Going to replace ASAP.

Enjoyed reading this.
My 128i just got a 2 stage polish to remove previous owner neglect, this is after a long day of driving in the country roads w/ e9x sway
