Just found a cool feature for cars with Nav

My car arrived last week from my ED, though I had already put nearly 2k on it while in europe. Over there we listened to the iPod exclusively and I hadn't played with the radio much, but as soon as it arrived here I activated the satellite radio and setup the presets down by the CD slot. I noticed yesterday that when I put my finger on the preset button, without actually pushing it, the display screen shows the station that's programmed for that preset without actually changing stations. Pretty cool! One of these days I'm going to read the manual!

Oh man, that threw me off for a while because the preset radio station for my button '1' was "POWER 95.3"...but only "POWER" showed up. Confused the hell out of me as to why the car thought that was the power button when I lightly touched it... I eventually figured it out, lol.

Congrats on the 1M!

Those buttons can also be preset just about any function in the car that you would access w/iDrive, phone numbers, addresses, etc. Just highlight the function you use often and press and hold it.

Go into iDrive menu and highlight desired function ( ie, highlight "split-screen"), but don't click controller. Then just lightly touch one of the buttons. It will either display on the top line of screen the current function assigned, or that it is empty. Press and hold and presto! I have night mode, plugin, web radio, phone home, nav home and nav to work programmed.

If you put night mode on, do you need another button preset to put it back to day mode? Or do you just click once and it's in night mode and click the same button again and it goes back to day mode?

Apologies but I don't have my car yet, so I can't check this myself

It s the email address linked with your BMW assist account.
In Google maps you have the option "Send to car"

Isn't night mode automatic???

I thought the nav switched into night mode when the headlights came on after a certain time of the day (6pm or 8pm something like that)...
