Oil Pan Gasket cost?

Hey all! Had my car checked out by dealer because she started dumping oil in my garage. Thought I would get lucky and have a valve cover gasket leak, which would be covered under SULEV. Turns out, it is my oil pan gasket. Dealer wants to charge $950 total, that sound about right? I am bringing to my indy tomorrow and see how much he charges. For now, she is parked and I am whippin the good ole Lexus for a while. Boring, but she's transportation! Thanks in advance!

I paid $760 at an indy last year for a new oil pan gasket, including new Liqui-Moly oil and filter. $950 from a dealer sounds about right.

Is this not also covered under SULEV? I would think if the valve cover gasket was covered, so would the oil pan gasket.

Looks like you're in SoCal. I wouldn't think the weather there is particularly harsh on seals and gaskets. How many miles do you have?

I dropped off today at indy, waiting on a quote from him. The SULEV didn't cover it unfortunately

Car sits with 60,700. Yes, I live in a city about a hundred miles north of LA. We are at the basin of the "dust bowl", so air quality is trash, temps get up to 115 in summer and our winters can be harsh. Major variation from summer to winter takes its toll on rubber gaskets and plastics.

I was quoted around $1k by a dealer in Virginia. Just got it done by an indy here in Florida for 655 not including the oil change.

How the heck is a oil pan gasket job so exp on the N5x? Does it have upper and lower gaskets and we're talking about doing both? Is there subframe crap to move to drop the pan? I can't picture the full pan in my mind right now.

Unhappy Well it's a BMW!

To replace the oil pan gasket, the subframe has to be pulled! That involves a lot of labor!

Yes it is a pain, and you have to put the motor up on a cherry picker or motor hoist and loosen the mounts
