I had these tires on my 2001 540iA sport pack and they performed decent in 3 inches of snow, they have ridges in them to capture snow because snow sticks better to snow. For the money they are great tires.

I am running the Blizzak run-flats (17 staggered) and they are pretty darn good. I got stuck in some snow around the new year with the stock Pirellis and I new then that I needed snowies. I have a set of the Conti DWS on the stock rims of my M3, and I have mixed feeling about them. They are not a good dry tire, and they aren't that great a winter tire. Too much compromise. Get snowies, and be safe! Then enjoy the summer with proper high-performance tires.

Conti DWS are the best true high performance all-season tire but let's be frank: they're not 1/10th as good as a good winter tire in the snow. When I put the snow sports on my little 135 I swear I could hook a plow up to her...

I have the Conti Extreme winter tires. Just last week a guy with a 4x4 that works in the same building came up on me really fast and was on my a$$. When I entered a curve in the snow covered road he lost it and spun out. I had to turn around and go back and rub it in while other co-workers drove by. Word got around that the 1 series could take a 4x4 and people were dogging the 4x4 guy all day. With all the snow and really cold temps in Idaho these tires have paid off.

All seasons mostly suck at everything. If you are getting a second set for winter, I have no clue why you wouldn't just get proper snows. It isn't just the tread either, the rubber compound is different as well for the cold.

Yup. AWD helps you accelerate. Doesn't do jack for turning or stopping.

There was about 3in of snow on the ground this morning and mine did fine.

I was out last night. Drove through 6-8 inches of unplowed power. TC OFF and with the snows I didnt have any issues even with hills.

I drove my car in light snow with Michelin Pilot Sport A/s' on them. Not the brightest move. Thought I could get away with all seasons in Wisconsin (I've got an alternate car I use for more snow).

Still, if the snow's not too deep, it's fun to let the rear end break loose.

RWD is much more fun than all wheel. Off to find snow tires this late in the season...

I KNOW SNOW TIRES ARE THE WAY TO GO but with winters being the way they are, I experience snow maybe 2 or 3 times each winter. Consider that with my low driving demands, and snow tires aren't all that necessary.

Now that I've made that disclaimer, I want to praise my Continental DWS tires!! Handled unplowed roads with ~3 inches of snow on them like a champ! I was so proud.

Snow is but a fraction of what snow tires are good at, common misconception.

They are better at cold weather grip on both dry and wet surfaces.

It is the Provincial Law at my end of the world to have winter tires on any motorized vehicles between December 15 and March 15.

We have temperatures as low as -22F during the winter months. The rubber on the winter tires remain soft and flexible at those cold temperatures. The difference compared to any four season tires is day and night.

#1, of course they are. I can never understand how people that live in cold climates wouldn't want to spend 600 dollars for snow tires during the winter months. It's cheap insurance to put yourself in a better position to be safe during those months.
