seems like an american system http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General..._Service#Range - it would not be allowed to use it in europe - authorities are allowed to confiscate units which are in use (e.g. power switched on) but who cares? here the european counterpart: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PMR446 in general these walkie talkies would have a few hundred meters of useful range when used inside a car (come to think i failed the electronics test for the ham-radio licence some years ago - what do they think? i want to operate an amateur radio - not build one )

Hi !
Thanks Dackel for organizing this event ! I would be more than happy to join with our little VO 1M ! Living near Basel, I am "not so far" -ca. 5h-. Nevertheless, I guess we would arrive on Friday evening to be fit on saturday. Any ideas about the agenda ? "Drive-drive-drive" or other activities as well (nothing against "drive-drive-drive" , this is just to get my family prepared... ) ? About the hotel: should we book something right away ? Looking forward to driving the Stelvio with you guys ! Best. Jean-Marc |

Great that you can join us for Stelvio v2.0. I think this year we will have an even better time that last year's tour! So far I have reserved the rooms at our Hotel. But we are still putting together the route. We are open to any suggestions. As we get closer to the July 20th/21st date... I will post more info. Dackel

What does everyone think about doing an extended Stelvio tour. ??? We all really liked the SchlossBlick Hotel near Kuftstein this weekend. We could stay down there for a night of two. Maybe see the old Fortress there and do Andreas little Alpine road that we ran out of time to drive. Then we could also do Stelvio during the work week.
SchlossBlick Hotel http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=222 I still like the dates: July 20th and 21st. But I was thinking maybe we could stay two nights in Kufstein and two nights at Francesca's hotel near Stelvio. So maybe we could do a Saturday thru Tuesday tour? Any thoughts>?

^best to time the driving of the really good roads on a weekday
like this monday despite of the weather we barely had someone in front of us slowing us down - i like that ...and i would know two or three more shorter and longer mountain roads in my area

Yeah that was one avalance-protection that did not do its job very well. Granted, they are intended to stop snow, not rocks .

Looking at the training calendar, that is just a normal weekend for me. So id probably be able to make the Saturday and Sunday parts but would have to head back Sunday evening.
Its a 5.5 hour drive from Stelvio back to SW, so ill just keep an eye on your guys plans and work it out that I join you guys for Friday evening through Sunday midday.

I'm down for an extended trip to Kufstein. I couldn't make the Welt 4.0 "after party."
