Coilover Setups
I'm currently running Fortune Auto 500s, but I'd like to start tracking my car. People have recommend for me to get a nice set of 2 ways but that just isn't in my budget. Thinking about getting my 500s converted to a 510 series. What coilovers are you guys currently running?

Depending on your skill level and budget, 2 ways aren't absolutely necessary. If budget is a concern, just stick with what you have and spend your money on brake pads, tires and other consumables/maintenance.
I currently run TCKline single adjustable coils 350F 800R spring rates. Lots of people run Ohlins with similar rates. I don't know much about Fortune Auto 500 or 510, but if you are new to tracking your car I would focus on seat time before focusing on upgrading the suspension. |

100% skip the "upgrade" to 510s. Upgrading to a much better quality single adjustable will for sure help more than having more knobs that may or may not behave in a useful, predictable, and repeatable way.
And while we are at it - skip the instinct to upgrade half way. IMO the TC Klines or Ohlins are the minimum quality that represent a meaningful improvement over the generic budget stuff (such as Fortune Auto) and I'd really prefer to have an MCS 1 way over a TCK 2 way any day. -Mark

Spend that money on tires and brake pads, and go send it! Don't forget to flush your brake fluid with a very high grade fluid.
The three best things you can spend money on are seat time, tires, brake pads, in that order. Worry about the suspension when you're faster than the car. |

I'm pretty sure I'll be moving back to MCS fairly soon, ideally 2WNR depending when I get the DCT swap done.

Where are you in NC? I'm in Greensboro and my 135i is on TCK SA's. More than welcome to drive the car to see how you like them.

Drive on what you have and spend the money on seat time. Fortune Auto makes good stuff, and the 500's are plenty adequate for recreational driving at the track.
If you were going for time attack, I'd say the upgrade might be worth it, but I'd really recommend spending the money on a really good suspension like MCS' or maybe even Ohlins TTX($$$$$). That all said, I've got Ohlins Road and Track's, valved to the 1M kit specs by 3DM Motorsports, running Swift springs 7k front/16k rear, and I've got Vorshlag camber plates. I LOVE this setup, and there's nothing other than bushings in the rear end that I want to change.

I will agree with what you said though, drive on what you got an improve - seat time will make you a faster and better driver then any suspension upgrade. When it comes time to finally upgrade your suspension, whether that be when you have the funds or you've reached the limit of your current setup, then look at upgrading to a good 2-way setup. MCS or JRZ both make excellent 2 way options that can be had as remote or non-remote setups depending on your budget. You can also get custom KW motorsport setup for similar pricing to the MCS or JRZ options, I went that route for numerous reasons and have been very happy with the results. I do strongly recommend going to a 2-way adjustable shock though, it greatly improves your ability to tune the suspension vs. just rebound adjustment on a 1-way. |
