Prep project: 5 hours in
I started the initial wash/clay/polish/seal project today. In 30 degree weather. My wife thinks I'm nuts! I washed it with Dawn to get the surface squeaky clean, then took the clay bar to it. The clay really didn't come back very dirty, but I still felt better performing this step. Next came the Menzerna PO85rd with a blue pad. Let me try to put this eloquently: This stuff is fuc*ing magic on Jet Black! I was extremely pleased to say the least. Remember that pic I posted with the dealer installed swirls? The paint responded immediately to the polish and 98% of the light scratches/hazing came off with the first pass. I made a second pass on the trunk for comparisons sake and it was nearly perfect to my eye in the sunlight. Here are some teaser pics. And by the way, that reflection pic with my ugly mug in it? That's with NO WAX OR SEALENT! Just one pass of Menz . I can't wait to see how it looks after 3 coats of Z2 enhances the shine. It's going to be simply amazing. I'd say I got at least another 6 hours ahead of me.
Check out the snow!

Dr Jones, I was actually thinking today as I was buffing (ahh my back) that we should have a MA "show and shine". I'm no expert, but I know my way through a pretty thorough detail. I'm sure there are other locals who can contribute as well. But, yes, I'm happy to show anyone locally who wants to see how to detail a car the way I do it.

With a nice shine like that, there will be a lot of spygating going around. That's pretty nuts though at 30 degree weather. Good job prepping.

Your car look amazing! I have a question, why do you choose Menzerna PO85RD instead of PO106FA? With PO85RD, your car look amazing, I thought PO106FA is a even finer polisher..

This is the description: Menzerna Final Finish PO85RD is an ultra fine finishing polish designed to leave paint with the highest levels of gloss possible. Like the Menzerna Intensive Polish PO83 this was developed by Menzerna for the new breed of Scratch Resistant Coatings which are being introduced by many of the major paint manufacturers. It contains super fine uniform micro polishing grains to safely and effectively remove very fine 3000 grit marks from paint such as holograming and marring from more abrasive compounds. As such this is in our opinion the finest finishing polish there is, it leaves paint with so much depth and a mirror like gloss it's sometimes hard to believe. For both professionals and enthusists that strive for perfection this is a must have product.

How long did it take for the Z-2 (or Z-5) to dry ? I am very curious, as in 50 degree weather it took longer than 30 minutes they recommend.. alot longer...

Moisture in the air will take it forever to dry... since you have melted snow everywhere.
I washed my car in the garage once and left the zaino (with zfx) overnight to dry. It still wasn't too dried the next morning. I think cuz of the moisture in the garage. I advise to do in outdoors on a good day.
