Hey Mike, I'm away on vacation and my car getting serviced on Monday. I left the pbx on map 3 by mistake! The service is for brake fluid, micro filter, along with few other things since the car currently a year old and at 28,000 miles. Should I be concerned about my warranty being voided because the PBX might possibly be detected

Is the car with the service centre already? If it's still with family/friends then it would be easy to get them to change it back to map 0 before they drop it off for service. |

I had a family member try and reset the map setting for me. Hopefully everything worked, the car went to the dealership today. We will find out for sure whether or not the PBX really lives up to the claim of not being detected in the next few days

It's funny... we pretend that BMW service techs are idiots and that they'd have to look at the ECU to see if the PBX is installed... they could just use the throttle method to try and set a map the same way we do it!

Just wanted to give everyone an update. My car came back from dealership today, apparently besides changing break fluids and micro air filters it was also inspected, passed inspections and was issued a new inspection sticker

i just had to remove my injen and pbx due to a faulty instrument cluster being replaced (tacho needle was sticking and not reacting to actual revs). Took about 1.5hrs to remove both and get car back to stock. Am missing the sound of the injen now.. Have 10,000kms on the odo, another service due at 12500kms, not sure i can be bothered re-installing the pbx and injen only to have to potentially remove them again in a little while.
Meanwhile i'm thinking an exhaust would be nice. WMJ, how's yours going?

(janus' case is different since his service may have required engine bay work, normally the PBX is fully hidden from view) |

I just got my car back from servicing... they did a full electricals check and no word about the PBX (which was reset to map 0 before the service.) The car passed with flying colours.
Was cheeky and set it back to map 2 whilst sitting in the BMW service garage I wonder if they thought "hmm he's taking his time adjusting his seat isn't he..." |

Mate exhaust has completely settled in, whilst on a few cruises have had many compliments about the exhaust from all the other 135i drivers, best bit of kit apart from the pbx ie. Quote:

I was contemplating upgrading my exhaust (bmw perf exhaust on joel's 135i sounds MAD) but when i went to pick up my car just then, i was doing the paperwork when the windows start rattling and some ridiculously loud hoon car drives out of the garage to the front driveway. then a guy gets out of the car and hands me the key. shiiiiiiit.

It's amazing the info they have. At my last service appt. the advised knew that I drive with the traction control off unless it's wet. At that point I had only handed him the key. I almost fell off my chair.

I think BMW either hasn't realized, doesn't care, or can't be bothered to train all their techs everywhere. But really, takes 2 seconds on any forum or website selling the PBX (or any other tune) to learn how to turn them on/off. Now, all that aside, I love my PBX and will be turning it off as well when I go for service in a few months. A buddy of mine has said his service guy at BMW doesn't care about all his mods, and hasn't raised any flags regarding warranty and such (this is on his M3). If I get introduced to the same guy, I might be able to avoid removing my intake before going for service, which would save me a bit of time of course. If anyone wants a K&N filter to go with their PBX and stock airbox/intake, I'm selling mine. Used for a couple hundred miles, clean as a whistle, just don't need it since I upgraded the intake altogether! PM me. |

I had read some concerns about the void in warranty and I found this article I hope it's of some use to those of you with questions about how BMW warranty dept. goes about deciding what to void.
http://www.lumenique.com/Cars/mcoupe...s/Warranty.htm Also at Turner Motorsport they provided this little tidbit. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...nty_info.shtml Last edited by Vesper1ynd; 05-12-2010 at 02:25 PM.. Reason: added new link |
