Perth Auto Classic - Is it the back end of beyond?
I read with envy the stories of those that have received and driven their 135i's. I am envious because I ordered mine from Auto Classic in Perth in June 2007...yes 2007. I paid my deposit without knowing much about the car apart from it was a 1 series coupe with a big motor. An act of faith at the time. Anyway, I have been patient and when the Tortugas arrived in Fremantle last Wednesday I went down to watch the cars coming off in the freezing pouring rain with my binoculars. A year later (almost) I was still keen. The boat then left here on its way Melbourne etc. I foolishly thought that I'd be amongst the first to see my car. Not so. I have been told that it will be Monday 26th May. I have tried and tried to find out what the hell they are doing with my car but all they do is blame customs. How come it takes nearly two weeks to get from the wharf to the dealer? Is someone lying to me? They have got all their cars for the launch tomorrow. Try as I may to get at the truth it's been a waste of time. All I can do is grin and bear it and let all you guys know that Auto Classic in Perth operates at a snales pace because they can as they have the nicest monopoly in Australia. The sole BMW franchise in the wealthiest city in Australia. Why should they rush around?

Steve, even though i ordered mine after you, I feel your pain they have told me Monday as well, we are not as important as the NEW customers as they have already made a sale to us......so the launch is more important, as long as they are not driving mine around i will be happy!

Competition would focus their performance but it won't happen! A sole franchise suits both Auto Classic and BMW when there are a limited number of vehicles to sell. Ho Hum! At least I can have a moan at the launch party...I hear 900 invitees??

Steve, that's really disappointing. If you feel that you're not getting the service you deserve call the dealer principal or BMW Australia. Both should do something about it
At the end of the day, you're spending a huge amount of money and you should get prompt service. if its not up to scratch, complain. I certainly would! |

Thanks for the sympathy Kris. I'll do as you suggest for the sake of those that come after me. However, I think my cause is beyond hope. I'll just make sure that I tell my story as often as possible at the launch tomorrow night. The irony I spot in this is when you go to a doctor for an $80 consultation or to a dentist for a $200 filling or an engineer for a $1000 design check you get to deal with intelligent, very well qualified and experienced professionals. However, when you go to buy a $million home or a $100,000 car you get to deal with morons....what's going on?

Notice how the doctor is lowest paid?!?!?! More money I say!!
I agree though, it does seem ridiculous. I won't mention my experience with real estate agents. I'm just happy I've got a very professional dealer I'm purchasing through at the moment. Definetly use him again.

To focus the Perth dealership's efforts perhaps you could mention your professional Melbourne dealer's name. I've worked out it would have been quicker for me to have ordered through Melbourne, cycled to Melbourne from Perth (starting today) and then driven the car back to Perth and still been in front.

Again I agree that once you find a good one stick with it whether it is Partners or BMW dealers, or Doctors or Dentists or Realtors or whatever. Problem is we have 2137 Doctors in Perth, 1543 Dentists, God knows how many Realtors, 1 million potential partners (depending upon ones sexual proclivities) BUT only one friggin BMW dealer!

i have bought and sold homes in five countries now and can attest that finding an intelligent AND good real estate agent is like trying to find a scratch left by the needle in the haystack.

I sure we'd all be interested but I suspect BMW Australia won't be. There are only a limited number of BMW's that are imported and Auto Classic would sell the whole WA quota I suspect... and BMW Oz would be very happy with this situation. Anyway, you never know, ask 'em.

Mate I would love to have a dealer, and Perth I reckon need one, you can not just have one, though I think there are very rigurous on how they pick they dealer, in the end the approval has to make straight from Germany, right?

Its all about sales and allocation..
If they are living up to BMW Australia's expectations and forecasts they wont form another dealership there. Just like any other franchise. |

I'm going to jump on the side of the dealer temporarily to provide an alternate to this flaming. The guy i'm dealing with for my 135i has been an absolute champion. I ordered mine in February and will be hopefully receiving it in about a month's time. I can tell you for a fact, that every car autoclassic brings in, is sitting at the wharf for nearly two weeks. My car lands here on the 7th of June yet the expected release of my car from the shipping company to the dealer is June 23rd - slightly over two weeks. All the cars being brought in are the same.
I think a more relevant question should have been why your car wasn't in an earlier production run and placed on an earlier boat?

BMWDave - have you spoken to your salesman lately? I've just found out that the one who sold me my last 3 cars since 2005 as well as the 135i has just moved on so I have to start the whole friggin' relationship thing again......

amk2912 - Yeah mate. I saw him last week. If you want a bloke that is truely interested in the vehicles he sells and knows more than a thing or two about how cars work, ask for Tristan. Tell Tristan that Dave with the le mans blue 135i recommended you speak with him.
