I've contacted Drew, and he has assured me they're OEM parts - says he has documentation to prove so if required. They have a public holiday in the States today but will get back to me with more information tomorrow. RE: No 3M tape - they didn't have any and didn't want to delay shipping simply due to this, but he's going to tell me exactly which variant of 3M's tape we should use.

Stay tuned...

Guys, I just want to know if anyone has seen other pictures of BMW CF mirror caps. Because you know what? Maybe they are all like that. The question is, what do you want to do if they are all like this?

I saw the ones on the car at Bib Stillwell launch last week and I cannot recall them having any defects.

All the photos I've seen, and the few that I've seen in the flesh didn't appear to have any visibile defects. Mine is definitely noticeable.

But when you put the mirror cap on, the defect is on the inside bit that isn't really visible. At least this is the case for mine...

Which "inside bit" do you mean? Mine's right in the middle at the front...

Hard to explain it. With mine "I think" it will be hard to see it when I install it. Not impossible, but just not that visible either.

Hey guys,
just got word from drew, says that BMW will probably replace these defective parts and that they, gravity autosports, will cover the postage.
which sounds pretty good to me.

Here is the latest from Drews @ Gravity Autosports:

Hey guys,

I need an exact list of everything that you would like to return as well as a small description of what exactly you found defective in the pieces. We are trying to figure out how we are going to go about shipping everything back, so we need to see how it would be most cost efficient to ship everything back to us (all in one box, separate boxes, etc).

So a list of what you would like to return, why, and your full name. BMW will replace faulty parts. We are thinking of reimbursing you guys for shipping costs, or just paying for the shipping labels here and having you guys print them over there. Is there a Fed-Ex drop off close to any of you?

Also, I know I received a few pictures, but for any defects that were not photographed, please go ahead and email them as an attachment. I want to make sure BMW sees these before we ship them back. I am truly sorry for this ordeal and hope that we are handling it to the highest of your expectations!

Drew

So, based on this thread, the following is a list of members and their faulty parts needing replacing:

Jono - 1 mirror cap and 1 spoiler
Wayne - 1 mirror cap
Corey - 1 mirror cap

Let me know if there are any more of you who have faulty parts. Wayne, Jono, can you please email me the photos of your parts and a short description of what's wrong? I'll PM you my email address.

As far as shipping goes, I'll make enquiries regarding FedEx and let you know what I can find out. Let's get this sorted ASAP.

Hey Corrie, I have put it on my car and I can't be stuffed getting it shipped back. Mine is pretty good anyway, just some minor bunching up in the pattern on an area that you can't see. Looks great on the car btw! Oh and the BMW techs said not to park it in a dark street as someone will steal it lol.
