'V-Braces' on 2011 128i convertible
Hello all -
This may be a silly question, but how important are the 'v-braces' located on the underside of the 2011 128i convertible? Don't ask how this happened, but I managed to snap off one of the bolts connecting the v-brace that attaches to the passenger side. There's no real damage to the under-body shield - that was easily re-attached, but the v-brace is not attached on that side. It's my wife's car & I don't get to drive it much, but I don't notice a difference in performance before and after this happened. I assume it would be advisable to have it reattached, so is there anything that I'd need to be especially careful of when trying to remove the bolt that snapped off? Obviously, I don't want to cause more damage than there already is, but I'd rather just have my local mechanic get the bolt out and replace it than to have to take it to the BMW shop... this is my first BMW, so any advice is appreciated...thanks! |

Important. But no, they're very easy to bolt/unbolt. Nothings going to explode or fall to pieces when you swap a new brace in.

under the car - if you're on the ground looking up at the underside, they are right above the under-body shields. i attached a diagram that shows them...

The front one near headlights Its attached at the top near headlights AND front Convert spec subframe near the Central front jack point to form the V shape
The bottom are attached at front subframe and to the sides. From there it makes a diamond to rear differential Coupes need to Fab a front subframe mount point... :S
