Smile Run in service?

Guys, Dan@United sells a kit which includes 7 litres of BMW 5W30 Oil (I think its rebranded Castrol) , the Oil Filter and a Fuel cleaning kit. The price is $55 USD plus $49.50 for shipping.

I'm dropping my oil at 1000kms and figured some other people may be interested.

BMW quoted me $28 per litre for the oil, but I know you can get the same stuff for about $80 from your standard parts shop plus filter cost, fuel cleaner cost which is already over the price of the US kit.

Just a FYI, I tried calling BMW to get a price for a 1000km oil drop and they disconnected me after about 10minutes on hold.

That sound too cheap for shipping?? that would have to weigh close to 8-9kg boxed up. Is it sent by sea or air? It could be cheaper for shipping if we get a few kits sent in one shipment and break them up in Australia.

I receive packages from the US frequently. A 15lb package sent by US post will cost around the AU$100 mark. Express postage expect to pay double.

That's a reasonable price.

Interesting though, as I was sure you couldn't airfreight oil as it is treated as a hazardous material. And I'm sure that fuel cleaner would definitely be flammable!

Not sure if this is any help, I use this in the MINI and I will most likely use it in the 135i. I will also do an oil change at 1000kms.

Castrol make the BMW oil, and 5W30 is the recommended weight. Looks good to me! but you need more than 5litres I think..

The BMW oil is probably what is called German Castrol. Which is a very good oil.
The Castrol Edge above I have used in cars and it is a great fully synthetic oil too...if you look at the specification numbers for a 10w-30 oil it has a nice low viscosity for max flow and performance. Excellent value for money in my opinion...find me an oil with better specs for cheaper. For road use this will be fine. For track use I would go something heavier.

Also look at Mobil 1 30w for road use. Brilliant oil.

I think you need 7 quarts of oil which is around 6.6litres. Better off buying the oil here.

Anyone know how much the filter will cost?

I paid AUD25 for an oil change kit for a 120i less than a month ago. Also got the same Castrol 5-30W oil for AUD49 (not on special). Oil isn't the BMW approved one (Edge 0-40W is BMW approved), but I change more frequently than required so that avoids most issues.

Change it mate - Castrol 5W30, give BMW a call and double check the oil but I'm sure the manual says it in the back.

No not a BMW one. It's one organised by Driver Dynamic at Sandown. I know Kev so decided that I am going to attend this eventhough a lot of cars there will be ricey ones. It's the earliest track day available to me. Wanna come down for it?

Mate I'd love to but I'm right in the thick of organising everything to move into the new place! June/July are totally out for me! I've dropped BMW an email to find out more about the M Day or Driver Training...

Changed the oil last weekend, used Castrol 5w30 edge sport....cost:

OIL $51.65 per 5L
FILTER $21.53 ea

Oil change was very easy, I was able to undo the oil filter cap by hand....did it back up by hand also and nipped it up with a wrench, there is a very good o-ring in there to seal and just added 6.6L and then checked the oil level on the dash and it reads MAX....feel much better now she has fresh OIL...

Much cheeper to buy 2x5L bottles instead of single litre bottles @ 14.50ea you can just use the left over another 2 changes plus a bit for top up.....
